Intro to Performing Arts | Friday, 2nd Period

"Hey everyone!" Annie waved with a hand that was clutching a brightly-colored beanbag, while clutching two more in her opposite hand. "I know I promised more singing stuff this week but - " She grimaced. "I don't know about you guys, but...I kind of need a little, um, space from all things singing after last weekend. So, apologies, but we're skipping around a little in the syllabus."

She neatly tossed one of the beanbags up, following it with the other two until she was juggling all three pretty easily. "Juggling! Not everyone is like, a singer, or a dancer, or an actor - but pretty much anyone can learn to juggle as long as you've got a little patience."

And even if you didn't, you had a whole hour of class to get through before she was going to let you all leave, so you might as well learn to juggle.

Annie caught her beanbags with a smile, then launched into an a brief explanation of how to juggle three things. "If you're feeling ambitious," she added, "there's plenty of beanbags. Oh - and please try not to knock over my plant."

She indicated a very nice spider plant on the corner of her desk. It was a gift from a student, you see.

She's there, admiring her plant.

Five looked from the plant, right on over to her with a deeply unimpressed look. Though the level of pettiness sort of explained some of the whole relationship with Diego.

He, oddly, approved.

"Do you like my plant, Five?" Annie asked, looking unimpressed right back at him. "It was a gift."

Oh, sure. A gift.

"For my brother, yes." They had an understanding.

"I'm borrowing it," Annie told him. To make a petty, petty point. "Did you know it cleans the air? That was thoughtful."

It was something Annie appreciated, even if she'd had to basically beg Diego to keep the damn plant and she was going to have to constantly remind him to water it.

Yeah, welcome to dealing with a Hargreeves, Annie. Allison was the only one who could sort of be trusted with living beings.

"Oh, is it a time share on the plant?"

"Just for today," Annie assured him lightly. "It's really Diego's plant, after all."

That he had tried to get Annie to take, but you know.

"It goes really nice with his clean apartment." Okay, laying it on a little thick, there, January.

Five raised his eyebrows and nodded along with that. Because this was adorable.

"I'll be sure to asked after it next time I see him."

"I'm sure it'll be thriving." Again, because she would be watering it and/or reminding Diego to, and she'd already done a little bit of research on what kind of conditions spider plants liked, because this stupid plant was a whole project for her, now. "You guys planning on getting ice cream again?"

That's right, Five. She knew about the vomit. (But like, not about anything actually important from that conversation. Just the vomit.)

Five made such a face at that. "No, I don't think we'll be having ice cream anytime soon."

"Good talk, though?" she asked curiously, because what she wanted the most - even more than to fruitlessly rub this plant thing in his face and try to get a reaction - was for Diego to have a nice relationship with his brother. And honestly, maybe the vomiting had helped! Bonding.

"We talked, yes," Five granted her. Mostly about how Annie was very much an only child and didn't understand the unique Hargreeves sibling dynamic.

And also avoided talking about feelings when possible.

"He apologized. It was very touching."

"He did?" Annie was not only an ignorant only child who didn't understand anyone's sibling dynamic - let alone the Hargreeves' - but she was also very willing to believe the best of most people, regardless of the unlikeliness of the scenario. So, yeah, her face absolutely lit up at that, because of course Diego had apologized, and she was instantly just so proud of him for it.

And now she was going to push her luck. "And did you apologize for what you did to his place?" She wasn't expecting it, but it sure would be nice!

"Oh, of course." Annie, no. Annie, don't let him fool you!

"That's really nice," Annie told him sincerely, totally willing to believe him. "I'm really proud of both of you. And hey, next time that there's a crappy weekend like that, there's like, so many other ways to deal with it, 'cause it happens to all of us. Trust me. I ended up wearing like fifty pounds of tulle."

And she had dealt with her frustration and embarrassment through vodka and vermouth, mostly.

"I'm certain that Diego and I will do much better next time." No, they'd get in a slap fight where she couldn't find out.

"I think if you both just try to be kind to each other, it'd go a long way," Annie assured him. "And the wacky stuff doesn't usually happen to Diego so like, try not to hold that against him."

Annie herself tried really hard, even though she maintained that it was largely bullshit that he hadn't turned into a cat on Halloween, and so on.

"The kindest we possibly can," he promised, holding a hand up and looking like a psychotic, but earnest Boy Scout.

Okay, that was enough to make Annie just the teensiest bit suspicious of his sincerity. "Just normal kindness," she decided, eyeing him. "Non-destructive kindness would be a great starting point."

Again, the plant was a project because she had rescued it. Because he had bought it just to knock it over.

"We're Hargreeves," Five pointed out. Which meant the lack of destructiveness miiiight be tough.

"Which seems to mean a lot of things, based on what I've heard about your siblings," Annie pointed out.

"We'll try." He would do no such thing.

"And I'm proud of you for trying," Annie assured him. "And let me know if there's anything I can do to help."

She meant that sincerely. Even if she was still holding onto the gift she'd gotten him and was being sort of spiteful (for Annie) about the plant.

The gift he didn't know about? That one? The one he should only get before travelling to the 1960's where he couldn't use it?

"Try not to let him kill the plant."

Yes, that gift. Exactly. She sure was showing him!

"I revived this plant," Annie pointed out. "I won't let it die, don't worry."

Also maybe Diego would learn to take care of a plant! It was a great lesson in responsibility for most, like, seven year-olds.

Yeeeeah, good luck there, Annie.

"It wasn't going to die." Plus, it afforded him a place to hide weapons in Diego's apartment.

"You know, I don't know if you know this about plants, but they usually don't like to be knocked over," Annie shared helpfully. "It could have died!"

Also seriously - between the weapons that would apparently be hidden in this plant, plus the various knives, plus the occasional addition of Annie herself - this was getting to be a really a well-armed apartment.
