Have Portal, Will Travel; Tuesday, Fourth Period [01/05].

Stop the presses, everyone. Summer was actually having her class meet in an actual classroom this semester. Not even the Danger Shop classroom, which, while still hilarious to her, maybe seemed a little excessive for a class that was going to get pretty excessive as it was. An actual classroom.

It felt a little weird, tbh.

So it was a good thing they weren't going to be there for long, as indicated by the big glowing portal at the front of the classroom waiting patiently for them.

"Hey, everyone," Summer greeted them with a smile as once it was time to get started, "and welcome to 'Have Portal, Will Travel,' a class I hope works as a good guide for both experienced portal travelers and complete newbs alike. So, if you didn't know, I'm Summer Smith, I had some pretty wild experience with portals even before coming to this school, and that experience has only grown since there, and now I want to share what I've learned over the years with you all! I'm seeing a lot of names on the roster which are new to me, which is great," or it meant that she'd scared off most of the people who usually take her classes, "but that also means I'm not sure exactly where everyone is on the level of multidimensional travel, so that's what this week's class is mostly going to be about. Who you are, where you're from, the level of your portal and/or multidimensional traveling experience thus far, and what you actually might like to get from this class. I'm planning a lot of various different locations to portal to that'll hopefully run the gammut of multidimensional experiences, but since we're all already from such different and interesting places, I'd love to get some ideas as to what you'd like. Also, if there's anything in particular I should avoid...alllergies, phobias, big oh hell no red flags...please, please, please let me know. And also keep in mind that I do have my own portal gun," displayed now everyone to see, "so if things get a little too much and a quick exit needs to be made, not even due to danger, maybe just because that day's particular trip is just not going to work for you, we got you covered.

"Also, I've got one of these," she added, putting away the portal gun and replacing it with her blaster gun, "which is to say that weapons are not only encouraged in this class, but sometimes might actually be necessary, just please be careful, since this is not the Danger Shop, these are actual legit portals and everything, so there will be consequences, I've got a Quick Setting on the portal gun that'll portal you straight to the clinic here if, you know, you need to, but hopefully, that won't be necessary. Guess there's only one way to find out, though, right?

"Since I figured having a class about portals and then not even using a portal to go somewhere on the first class is kind of a dick move, though, I have just a nice little low key trip to a space spa that we can enjoy for our first class, so....not a lot of prep work needed for this one, everyone up, hop on through, and we'll get started!"

In true Summer fashion, it's more of an excited ramble than a lecture, but she does manage to cover a lot of ground, so if there's any questions before you blindly follow this supposed teacher into a mysterious portal at the front of the classroom, now's the time to ask!

Summer, no! Summer, you'd started so well!

And then there was mention of weapons being encouraged and possibly a necessity and Elli was looking deeply, deeply resigned.

"Goddess," she murmured. "What if I'm danger-phobic?"

Could she claim that? She was tempted to claim that.

"Then you're probably going to the wrong school."

Sure, Summer was pretty sure that Elli hadn't meant for her to hear that, but she couldn't help herself. Her smile was soft, though. Sympathetic. Because she actually had been there before, once upon a time, probably when she was around Elli's age, in fact, which was obviously so long ago.

"But that's good to know," she added, because, hey, maybe it would help if she knew the teacher was listening and taking these things into consideration?

Elli sighed, in agreement, because she oftimes wondered if she was at the wrong school, but offered Summer a faint smile nonetheless.

She... she would try.

She was probably going to cry at least three times this semester alone due to this class.

Belle was just going to stare while you spoke, Summer. Don't mind her and ever-widening eyes. This was all a lot to take in! Obviously she knew portals existed since she was here and no longer at home but she'd only had experience with the one and it had certainly been magical and this clearly was not.

Oh dear. Did that mean Five was right? What a terrible thought.

The portal will lead everyone into a lush little private room in Summer's absolute favorite space spa, which settles in verdant blue top canopy of the planet's absolutely massive trees, so far up you can't even see the planet's surface. The view of the world is clear from the large glass window looking out over it all, colorful birds occasionally making a slow flight across the peach-colored sky. There are comfortable chairs, lounges, and cushions scattered around, there are brightly colored space cookies and macaroons and some nice warm space tea set out for everyone to enjoy, and once everyone seems to be safely through, Summer began again, welcoming them to ~~Handwavey~~ Planet and its absolutely premeire spa.

"Take a moment, help yourself to some food and drink if you'd like, and find a spot to get comfortable, and we'll knock out these introductions. And once I have a good idea of where everyone is at and what they'd like to see-slash-avoid during this class, you're free to explore the spa. I have brochures if you want to take a look at the amenities, or I can suggest some of the hot spots, because I am well acquainted with this place, and I tip well, so you're all going to get some really top notch treatment. Okay, then! Who would like to get us started?"

Still, for all of her reservations (and she had many), Elli did go through the portal this time around. A spa, even a space one, didn't sound like anything but a nice time.

She, feeling greatly daring, took two cookies and a cup of tea, before settling into an incredibly comfortable chair.

Oh, Goddess, did she have to go first?

"I'm Elli," she said, "and my experience with travel of any sort is very limited."

She hesitated a moment.

"Can we avoid all danger?"

She would like to avoid all danger.

"All danger?" Summer repeated. "No. Some danger?"

She seemed to consider this in an overexaggerated way. "Maybe. Probably. Possibly. But one of the key take-aways I want to give you guys with this class is how to handle danger that can't be avoided. Or, if anything, maybe we can do a little bit to understand how present danger can actually still be avoided. This class is definitely not going to be all spa days and prancing through fields."

She gave a faint grin. "I do have some of that planned, too, though, don't worry. I take it you don't face a whole lot of danger where you're from, Elli? Or is it the opposite, where there actually is tons of danger and you were sort of hoping for a nice break from it all?"

Elli looked down at her tea and marveled at the fact that she was even thinking of drinking space tea and how that was a pretty amazing step right there.

Ann would've tried it already.

"Nothing ever really happens back home," she said, and oh, she did miss that. "The most dangerous thing that's happened in the last twenty years was a bad snow storm in the mountains that killed two people."

To be fair,space tea was almost exactly the same as Earth tea, no matter what a Radchaai might try and tell you!

"I mean," Summer said, "that's still two people and that's still pretty bad, especially if you're not used to it, but, hey, maybe you'll be able to pick up something here that'll help it so that, next time the next bag thing comes around, it's zero people."

Also, wow, that sounded super boring, but Summer was here to teach, not to judge.

"Illyana Rasputin, I'm a teleporter who can move between dimensions," she said, looking around with interest. "Or I will, with more training. Right now I can only move between two in particular, though I can go almost anywhere in either of them."

"Just keep me out of a Hell dimension and I'm down for almost anything."

Summer nodded. "I think I can easily work around potential literal Hellscapes," she assured Illyana, "definitely. But that's pretty cool; teleportation definitely helps cut out the middle gnomes, so to speak. Are the two dimensions you can currently access wildly different from each other, or is it one of those 'pretty much the same except in this one, people have, like, flat nipples instead of pointed ones' sort of deal?"

Unfortunately, an example inspired by real events. Sigh.

"Ulysses," Ulysses said once his turn came around, "and I... have taken some portals for the school trips? But that's about it."

"So it's probably pretty safe to guess that portal travel wasn't really a thing before coming here?" Summer asked, then ventured, "Sort of an 'Earth standard' situation, or....?"

She trailed off, in case any corrections on her assumptions would be in order.

"I guess that's one way to say it," Ulysses confirmed with a little shrug. "If there're portals where I'm from, I've never seen any."

That did not mean there definitively weren't any! But, yeah.

"I'm Belle and this is all a bit much." Well, it was! But it was also exciting and that was probably quite obvious from Belle's expression as she looked around.

"I took a portal to the school but that was magic and this is something very different. I look forward to adventures." In the great wide somewhere!

"I'm Nell," she said, "And the only experience I've had with portals is when I've gotten to go on trips with a class or the school,"

Once introductions are out of the way, you have the rest of the day to just enjoy relaxing in a space spa! There's an absolutely choice hot spring you can soak in, or step it up a notch with a space mud bath that will literally make you smell like strawberries! Get a space manicure, which is exactly like a regular manicure, except that it's happening in space! Just enjoy some space tea and some sick views in the room designed to completely chillax, get a massage under the expert hands of a person with six arms or a hot rocks treatment with special energon space crystals! There's definitely a space yoga class you can drop in on (just be aware that there will definitely be some moves that humans are not designed to attempt!), or, if you're not really the relaxing type, there's a space gym where you can get your space sweat or your space spar on!

Generally, just enjoy yourself, because the trips in this class that will be this simple are going to be few and far between. Appreciate it while you can!

She'll be around if anyone needs her, for sure! She'll be moving around to keep an eye on everyone before the time to corral everyone back to Fandom comes around, as well as available before and after the class period!

Space Spa exists on one page of R&M comic #32, not to be confused with the space spa in Episode 6 of Season 3, "Rest and Ricklaxation," which is an episode I have only seen probably once because it lacked any substantial amount of Summer and the only good thing I remember wanting to take from it was Morty's appreciation for organic carrots.
