BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

No more than a few minutes ago, Five had been waiting in Dallas, Texas in 1963 to make sure Kennedy died. The fact that he was in the future/past wasn't actually that strange for him. Because his job. The fact that he was now physically a teenager again, however, really was strange. And annoying.

Mostly annoying.

He grabbed a newspaper--it was 2021 somehow??--and a coffee to take a seat where he could unobtrusively observe people. The fact that he was basically a kid in an ill-fitting suit and sitting near a glittery sign that proclaimed this the pick up spot for Fandom High was just a side-note.

"Yeah, no ogres here," he replied dryly. "That's a new one. Unless you're on drugs maybe."

He'd read all about Klaus in Vanya's book, after all.

"But you have people from different times?" How was that more believable than fairytale monsters, Five? How.

Science? Or just some arbitrary skepticism.

"Yes." He sighed and teleported a little to the side to dump his coffee cup in the garbage. Because he was a little shit like that. "We do."

Belle took a step back. "You can do magic!" Because of course that was magic. How else could it be explained?

"That's not magic." It was kinda magic. "It's just moving through space and time."

Which was kinda magic.

"How?" Belle asked. Obviously it was magic. There wasn't any other explanation that would make sense! Not that magic made that much sense.

"Because magic isn't real. There's a logical explanation out there for these abilities. Almost all of my siblings can do things like this. Some less useful than others."

And then there was Vanya.

"How am I here if magic isn't real?" Belle asked. "And who says magic isn't a logical explanation? Magic explains plenty of things!"

"You moved between timelines," Five said like that was perfectly logical. "Easy."

"I did not," Belle said firmly. "I came through a magic portal. From a bean. I was there."

"A what?" BELLE, WHY DID YOU HURT HIM THIS WAY?

Five, you brought this on yourself.

"A portal," Belle repeated slowly. "From a magic bean."

Five looked furious at that level of sheer bullshit, opening and closing his mouth without any words coming out. Then did a series of teleports to go steal himself a strong drink from one of the airport bars.

Somewhere in the distance was a, "HEY!" before he reappeared in the lounge with a glass of whisky.

"No," he settled on.

Were you doing more magic now just to be difficult, Five?

"I'm sorry," said Belle who was not sorry in the slightest. "But yes."

MAYBE HE WAS.

"I refuse to buy into magic beans."

Such an absurd attitude from what was clearly a young sorceror.

"They exist. Whether or not you believe in them won't change that.

"Or there's a perfectly reasonable scientific explanation." Like the Commission's briefcases.

"Magic is a perfectly reasonable explanation," Belle pointed out. "Additionally, it's the correct explanation."

He was going to end up drunk on the shuttle! His liver couldn't handle it at this age! He was a lightweight!

All bad things would be Belle's fault!

"Okay, then explain how the magic works," Five said, totally using finger quotes on the word. Like a douchebag.

Belle might feel a twinge of guilt about it. Just a twinge.

"Do I look like a witch? I am not an expert on magic," Belle, who looked rather like a fairytale princess for obvious reasons, said. "Perhaps I can find you a book that explains it well."

Yeah, she did have some poppin' eyelashes, it was true.

"Then I'll find you a book disproving it all."

"And one of those books will be wrong."

Obviously Five's book. Belle's books wouldn't dare.

"Very wrong," he agreed. Because it would be Belle's book.

"Hopelessly wrong."

"I'm glad we're agreed." She knew perfectly well they weren't.

It was the beginning of a beautiful, deeply antagonistic relationship!

"Perfect agreement."
