School Assembly, Wednesday, October 28, 2020

"Hello again, everyone," Anakin said as he wove his way around several motorized rickshaws to get up to the stage. "Today we--apparently--have another fun and interactive assembly that will no doubt teach you many useful things. Last week's, for instance, taught me it can take an entire week to remove garter snakes from an auditorium and I'm still not entirely convinced we found them all."

So sit with that little warning, kids.

"Today we have a special guest from outside of Fandom," he said, pulling out his index card. "Please welcome Iku Shiodome, who is here to talk about--"

There was an extremely long pause, and an even longer look at each member of the Student Council, "--Will You Fall In Love With A Rickshaw? I emphatically have no comment on this."

Avoid the rickshaws. And possibly the snake?

This should be special.

He is not falling in love with a rickshaw. Or a bus. He's married.

I giggle every time I look at the super sekrit spreadsheet of assembly topics, ngl.

Miles had arrived early for the assembly because who knew what kind of zany wackiness was going on.

But he was also on the lookout for who wasn't at the assembly. Particularly members of Rosa's class.

“Good morning!”

That came from the young man with blond hair, blue eyes, blue earrings, a wide smile and who was wearing clothes that didn’t quite fit him—like he was growing out of them. “I’m Iku Shiodome, the Shiodome Station of the Oedo Line in Japan!”

How did he speak English? It was magic. Literally magic.

Also yes, he’d just said he was a train station.

“I was the last Oedo Line station to open—I opened on November 2, 2002, so it’s almost my birthday!”

No one cared, Shiodome.

“Anyway,” he laughed, a bit awkward for the first time, “the guys decided I should be the one to do this, so let’s start: Will You Fall In Love With a Rickshaw?

“I had to do rickshaws,” he explained, “since you don’t have trains here.”

And Will You Fall In Love With A Train Station? just didn’t work without trains or their stations.

“According to my notes,” he had no notes visible, mind, “Wayne, Tahani, and Miles will be our rickshaws today!” Shiodome beamed at them. “Go on and pick a rickshaw and we’ll continue! And if anyone else wants to pick a rickshaw and be one that’s fine too!”

Once that was done, he beamed at them all again.

“Love,” he said, “is a precious, treasured emotion and, as train stations—or rickshaws, today—the only way we can feel it is from our passengers. Being passengers, however, they never stick around and we wouldn’t want them too: a passenger that can’t get to their destination means that our purpose in life has failed! As such, the most important part is making sure the customers are happy and that any of their problems that we can solve, we do so, even if they don’t have anything to do with the trains or our station!”

This was maybe an odd definition of love.

“As such, our rickshaws today—Tahani, Wayne, Miles and whomever else wishes to be a rickshaw!—will have to solve the problems of their passengers!

“If there’s no questions, let’s get going!”

Some of them even have police lights on them! Wait for the voluntolds to create a thread and then go climb in their rickshaws so they can help you and win your love!

Theoretically.

Look, it works for the train stations.

I love the silly madness that is Miracle Train.

Another week, another assembly.

This one was being spent with Maeve surreptitiously pulling her legs under her in her seat.

These assemblies did have the potential to be the highlight of Troy's week, so of course he was going to make sure he was here for this week's. Even if it was going to have to try pretty hard to beat the last few weeks...

...but if it could? Damn.

Miles came down to the stage looking a bit wary.

Was he about to literally turn into a rickshaw?

Hey, this island was really weird, okay?

Tahani was here with her fabulous hair and her restored phone list! She was not getting near one of those icky, probably germ covered rickshaws, though.

"Ewwwww," Tahani said, loitering kind of near her rickshaw without looking like she had to be there. "I'm very good at advice, though!"

Not really, no.

To say Wayne was more'n a little confused would be a understatement.

But he was here. And when a man...or a train station, apparentleh...asked fer help, you helped 'em.

So this should be...interesting.

Shuri looked zero percent repentant about the bus at the dance, Anakin. ZERO.

Shuri, naturally, climbed right in. "So you're going to solve my problems?" she teased.

Wayne's squint was deep with uncertainty, because he still wasn't even sure what exactleh it was they were doing up here, but there wasn't anyone else in this room he'd even want climbing into his rickshaw of love than Shuri, so this was fine.

If confusing.

"Can...confirm?" he said, sounding much less positive and firm about that as he usually did when saying those words, especially as he now grew a little concerned that there might actually be one when he went on to ask, "What's the problem?"

If anyone thought Astrid would get her drawing skills back and not make the most of them by sketching out whatever silliness was going on at the assembly today, then they would definitely think wrong...

"Well, I appear to be sitting in a talking rickshaw, for one," Shuri teased.

"....Could be worse problems," said Wayne, after a long, long moment. "Though is the problem the fact that yer sittin' in a rickshaw, or that the rickshaw is talkin'? Or....both?"

"I think the talking part is what's throwing me," Shuri decided, grinning.

"OJ," said Wayne, who blinked a moment in thought before adding, "well, that's an easy enough fix."

And then that was it.

Because he fixed it.

It took Shuri a second to catch on, but when she did she laughed so hard she gave herself the hiccups.

Which meant that the personification of the rickshaw had to leave for a second, since he couldn't really call out fer a bottle of water if he wasn't talking, but he returned soon enough with one, handing it over with a firm ~~gip~~ nod.

Shuri beamed at him. "What a full-service rickshaw I've found!"
