Well, there wasn't an obstacle course this week, so things were looking up, right, students? Maybe? A little?

Anakin made his way to the front of the stage, holding out a piece of paper he'd received from the office. "Today we have some very special guests," he began, "so everyone shut up and listen to them, right? We have--" he read from the paper, "--Mikhail Robespierre and Janet, presenting about moral philosophy. Ethics students, I very much expect you to be paying attention."

Anakin was realizing just hooooow much work he had to do in Ethics for this particular crop of students. Yikes.

"Question!" Wei Wuxian raised his hand, but didn't wait before he continued. "How stable is this trolley? If I throw myself on the tracks," he mimed flinging himself sideways and holding up his flute to block an invisible oncoming trolley, "would that actually protect the other people on the track or would they still be killed?" He straightened up and tucked the flute back in his belt. "I guess the best way to find out is to try it."

"Well, chances are you would die a horrible and grisly death," Janet replied. "Unless you happen to have super-powers which apparently most people on this island do."

"Still, this is supposed to be a thought exercise but sacrificing yourself is a noble thing to do," Mikhail added.

"Right, but if I die, does it save them? Or did I sacrifice myself for nothing?" Again.

Did Mikhail look impressed by the young man? He did indeed.

"I would say for the sake of the thought exercise that yes, your sacrifice made a difference and saved the teddy bears."

"Great!" He smiled at Mikhail. "The teddy bears - they're not going to be thrown out, are they?" He couldn't hypothetically save them and just abandon them to their fate, could he?

That was a demon. Illyana could feel it in her bones, taste it on the back of her throat.

That was a demon. And not one that was a student, or on staff (and therefore theoretically vetted by the schoolboard)...though Illyana was starting to have doubts about their hiring processes.

Illyana didn't stick around past the demon trying to remember a human-sounding name to see what was going on. She just called a stepping disk on to the floor in front of her seat, slipped out of her chair, and was gone.
