School Assembly, Wednesday, September 2, 2020 [afternoon]

Anakin had opened up the auditorium for the first time in a while and was trying very hard to suppress memories of a holiday pageant gone horribly, horribly wrong. Remembering being a young, stupid high school student was made easier with his best friend back on the island for the first time in a while, but she, at least, had brought a smile to his face as he made final adjustments to the targets they'd set up on stage, and then glanced over to the elaborate obstacle course they'd made behind the area cleared behind the students, and extended to basically all of the space around the school that wasn't a building--while they waited as everyone arrived.

"It's a good thing we've checked out every paintball course on the East Coast over the last ten years." Anakin began when everyone was settled down. He had Aeryn had then gotten thrown out of every paintball course on the East Coast by making small children cry, but details! "It's helped to make this, the greatest paintball course, to properly teach weapons safety." He gestured to the obstacle course set up behind the students' chairs. "You, of course, also passed some of it in the grassy area on your way in."

Because everything doing was worth overdoing by an order of magnitude: the unofficial Skywalker motto.

"Now, most of you probably have some experience with weapons by now," said Aeryn, who still made those kinds of assumptions about Fandom, even the first week of school. "And hopefully you haven't shot a hole in anything you will need later. There's more to it than that."

Anakin nodded. "Now you've all checked your lethal weapons in so that you don't shoot people, no matter how annoying, in the dorms." He grinned at Aeryn. "Meet Aeryn Sun, the reason we have that rule."

"It was one time," Aeryn protested.

"It's how I knew we'd be friends," Anakin said. "But! Weapons should be used safely. You need to be able to aim and fire at the butt you are intending and not kill someone instead. There's paperwork."

Also, it was wrong.

"And it's wrong," he added belatedly.

"And, usually messy," Aeryn said. They were so helpful! "Avoid the face. Keep your weapon pointed down unless you are prepared to fire it. That will also keep the situation less stressful for everyone unless you intend to make it stressful..."

Then they proceeded to give an extremely detailed and competent (probably too competent for any high schoolers not used to being armed all the time) run-through of a series of gun-adjacent weapons.

"But you don't really learn by watching," Anakin admitted, picking up the last of their samples. "Let's get some volunteers up here for demonstrating."

"And now that you've all learned how the guns work--" you have not, Anakin, "--please find one under your chair. Students, line up with Adora, Mae, Illyana, and Wei Wuxian."

Anakin cocked his own, custom, paintball gun because he took this far too seriously for a man with four children. "Teachers, you're with me, Aeryn Kitty, and Rosa."

He grinned. "Last one unpainted wins."

[OOC: There will be no one unpainted, probably. Mod the course to your hearts' content! There's stuff inside the building, like the picture up top shows. There's also a huge course out in front of the dorm with high ground, things to cower behind, trees to snipe from, etc., etc. You can also spill into town where there will be more posts in the morning!]

"Oh no," Kitty said, and realizing that she was dealing with several people who took this way too seriously, she took off to phase through one of the obstacles to find a spot to hide and try to pick people off.

As soon as Eleanor found the gun under her seat, she was in.

And when she saw Kitty run off she decided that one teacher was just as good as another for target practice.

"I would like to address your birthday drink policy!" She shouted before firing at a woman who would no doubt just allow the paint balls just to phase through her.

Adora didn't even wait until Anakin had finished speaking before raising her gun and snapping off a shot at him, while calling out "Take cover!", not bothering to see if it hit before following her own order (because that had totally come out as an order, because that old habit was hale and hearty) and rolling behind the nearest cover.

Anakin hit the ground with Jedi reflexes and grinned over at Adora, glad that someone was getting into the spirit of this. "Better run!"

Barry of course immediately to try and tinker with his gun because these things always had the sights wrong and there was no way in hell he'd let that happen.

Shuri was doing the same thing, but on the run as she took a shot at him and then dove behind cover.

"Wait. We're all doing this?" Miles said holding the gun that was under the seat.

How much money did they spend on these events?

"Looks like," Adora said cheerfully after working her way around towards him. "We've got strength in numbers so he must be pretty confident. Maybe even overconfident."

There was a saying about pots and kettles that applied here, but it wasn't like Adora had ever heard it.

"Aww, just the one?" asked Summer, to no one in particular, with maybe a bit of a disappointed frown and a search around for any unoccupied seats that might have had spare, unclaimed guns underneath them.

SHE LIKED TO HAVE OPTIONS, OKAY?

But she was going to take a second to look this one over to familiarize herself with it and then she'll see about adding more to her arsenal.

"Death from above!" Eleanor called out and let rain with a dozen badly aimed shots at her other bartender.

"Finally," said Sabine, who'd been maybe a little put out that she hadn't been voluntold.

Naturally she was going to grab the first weapon she could find and jump into the course to look for adults to pick off.

"The children probably even think they have a chance," Aeryn said, over here with her own special and expensive paintball gun because she took this way too seriously.

"I don't want to play!" Tahani said, looking down at her Burberry shirt dress. "This is dry clean only!"

A paintball came too close and she yelped and hid behind a chair.

"And now I'm sitting on the floor! In Burberry!"

Shuri shot a paintball at her.

"And now you're sitting on the floor, in paint-covered Burberry," she said with a little grin. "And I'm the princess," she added, shaking her head.

"Right. This is called an ambush by authority figures, and I don't like it," Illyana decided, and with a sweep of her hand there were a dozen glowing discs popping up on the ground behind her.

"If you want out of this and into town, jump in," she ordered. "Make them come to us."

Illyana, this is why they felt you needed Supervision.

"Aw, yeah!" Arabella exclaimed as she pulled out her paintball gun. "I've always wanted to do this!" But when your family was full of Magus Sagittarius and combat-based PTSD, it was somewhere between 'not the best idea' and 'cheating.'

Of course, Arabella had thus far shown no signs of Magus Sagittarius ability--but then, Catalina hadn't either until someone handed her a fencing foil, so who knew? She'd just put in her time on the shooting range like everyone else. So it wasn't cheating for her.

Firearms- live ones or ones that shot paintballs- were completely unfamiliar to Juillenne. But the combination of that lecture and the war-gift meant when she leaned under her chair to pick up the paintball gun in question, she held it like someone who'd been doing this for years.

She had no illusions that she'd end this conflict unpainted; the war-gift could be used to deflect projectiles, but with so many opponents some were bound to get through, and she wasn't exactly great at maneuvering with just one leg.

But in the meantime, she could get a shot or two off of her own. So... sorry, whoever ended up in her line of fire?

Alexis had actually already been shot. However, since this was already chaos, Alexis decided she might as well get in on it and take some of the rage at her ruined top on others.

"Eat paint!" she said as she fired, with weirdly good accuracy.
