BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

As much as Maeve didn't want to admit that she was nervous, she really was. This was big. It was a new school, a new country, a second chance that she really didn't want to screw up.

She seemed to be the first one here- at least the glittery sign told her she was in the right place, and she was a little annoyed by it on principle- so she found a seat, piled her bags around her, and pulled out a book to read while she waited.

While she looked pretty engrossed in it, anytime she saw someone pass by her eyes flicked up like she was expecting them to come sit nearby.

"You crossed an ocean?" That actually impressed him. "What sort of boat?" Even high-level cultivators wouldn't be able to ride their swords across an ocean.

Wei Wuxian stared at her. He pictured a team of cultivators (because one couldn't possibly be enough) working together to stretch a plane of spiritual energy over the water. Was the plane strong enough to hold horses or did everyone walk? "How does that work?"

"Of course. It's a horizontal surface. Or do you mean the mathematical definition?" He spoke confidently, but he had a suspicion that she meant something else entirely. He just couldn't figure out what.

She stared at him, like she was waiting for him to start laughing and saying he really had her going any minute now.

"Please be fucking with me," she said, so worried right now that he wasn't. "The big flying zoom machines that come in and out of this building?"

"The what?!" She had to be teasing him. She didn't look like she was teasing. Wei Wuxian strode around the lounge until he found a window looking out the runway, and stared out the window, his eyes taking in all the strangeness. He leaned forward to get a better look and bumped his head on the glass. Which was also strange and new.

Where was he?!

He was just a super sheltered kid, obviously. Had to be.

"Yiling," he said, not taking his eyes off a plane as it lifted into the air. "What kind of energy do they use? Can anyone ride them?"
