As much as Maeve didn't want to admit that she was nervous, she really was. This was big. It was a new school, a new country, a second chance that she really didn't want to screw up.

She seemed to be the first one here- at least the glittery sign told her she was in the right place, and she was a little annoyed by it on principle- so she found a seat, piled her bags around her, and pulled out a book to read while she waited.

While she looked pretty engrossed in it, anytime she saw someone pass by her eyes flicked up like she was expecting them to come sit nearby.

Wei Wuxian looked thoughtful. "What if you had layers of clothing, and your outer robe was carbon-based and your underclothes were synthetic?" He wasn't sure what those materials were, but this was hypothetical anyway. "Would you just lose your underthings?"

"I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but I didn't pay that much attention in magic class." Because she had been really busy pretending not to have magic at the time. "Shouldn't you know this already?" Or, wait. "Or did someone else teleport you?" That would explain the landing.

He could try to bluff, but she seemed to know what she was talking about and he needed to know as much as he could. "We didn't cover this in magic class," he admitted. "There was a lot of resentful energy where I came from. It might have been an accident." If only resentful energy could create portals, that would explain why Cloud Recesses didn't have any practical information on them.

Arabella had no idea what he was talking about, but she took a stab at it. "Do you have enemies that maybe teleported you? Because that's what happened to Nevada! Except then they tried to kill her instead of, you know, sending her to boarding school."
