BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

As much as Maeve didn't want to admit that she was nervous, she really was. This was big. It was a new school, a new country, a second chance that she really didn't want to screw up.

She seemed to be the first one here- at least the glittery sign told her she was in the right place, and she was a little annoyed by it on principle- so she found a seat, piled her bags around her, and pulled out a book to read while she waited.

While she looked pretty engrossed in it, anytime she saw someone pass by her eyes flicked up like she was expecting them to come sit nearby.

"Yeah," said Troy, brow furrowing a little because this was seriously wrinkling his brain. There was just something about this dude, maybe he played for a rival team? Been at a few parties?

He figured there was a pretty easy way to try to narrow it down, at least. "So...where're you coming from?"

Which was the direction Miles had been planning to take so that worked out well.

"Brooklyn," He said with a touch of pride. "My Dad drove me here."

Yep. Way to bring up that incident, miles.

"How about you?"

So that was definitely not it. Weird.

"Colorado," Troy said, vaguely, because Brooklyn definitely had more street cred than Riverside. "I took a plane."

He was definitely at least a little bit proud of that fact.

"Huh. Listen. This is weird, but I feel like I know you somehow," he said trying to figure out what was going on. "Do you know anyone from Brooklyn? New York?"

"Get outta my brain!" said Troy, eyebrows lifting as he sat up a little, shifting again until he was leaning forward, his hands moving as if to implore the answer to this out of the air. "I was thinking the same thing! I mean, I got a couple of cousins out that way, but we're not really tight or anything. You spend any time in Colorado? Vacations? Summer camp?"

"Nah, I've barely been out of New York," which he said with a touch of pride that maybe he shouldn't have. "Maybe I've seen one of your cousins somehow."

"...yeahhh," said Troy, with the skeptical frown of someone who really wasn't convinced by even what he himself was saying, but didn't really have any better answers, either way, "maybe that's it..."

"Maybe," Miles said with a skeptical shrug. "Anyhow, This is like my first major time with me away from home. Feels pretty weird."

Miles has no idea what's coming for him.

"Yeah, me, too." Troy sighed a bit, feeling a little more comfortable admitting that even though he did just kind of meet Miles. But also maybe not? He wasn't going to think about it too much, which was generally his approach to anything. "But it's exciting?"

He didn't sound too convinced by this, until his head tilted with another thought that had more appeal. "Or an adventure..."

"Maybe? I mean it's school, right?" Miles said trying to think it through. "Classes and all that. Can't be that different than any other school right?"

Oh, Miles. You sweet child of summer.

"Boarding school, though. No parents," Troy pointed out, holding out a finger, "people from all over the place. No--"

He almost said 'no football', but stopped himself.

"--mountains?"

It was the first thing he could think of that they had in Colorado that they probably didn't have out here.

"Well, Maryland does have the Appalachian mountains," Miles pointed out being the huge nerd he is. "I don't know if they're anywhere near the school."

"My mom said it's on an island."

Warned, Troy. The correct words were warned you it was on island.

Although whether that was a point against the mountains or a point for the adventure aspects of it was unclear.

“Oh. I didn’t know that,” Miles said brightening up. “Yeah so no mountains there I guess. I didn’t even see the brochure. My Dad saw I got a scholarship and that was it.”

"A scholarship? For sports?" Troy's brow creased in worry. He thought there wasn't going to be any sports here. But then he remembered there were other kinds of scholarships, too. "Or one of the brainy kinds?"

Not that it mattered; Troy threw away his chances for a scholarship with his whole keg flip stunt, and there was no way he'd ever get or want a brainy one.

"Nah. It's an academic one," Miles admitted. "I really wouldn't call myself a brain though. I just put a lot of time into it."
