Political Campaigning (Thursday, April 6, 4th period)

"You've been watching political ads and have spent a few months learning about your candidates. Today we talk about going negative." He gave them a smirk. "Or, as I prefer to think about it--the hard positive. You're not necessarily telling the voters that your opponent hates his mother and kicks puppies in his spare time--though if he does and you've got tape of it, for the love of God, use it--you're just telling them things about him that he'd rather you not mention."

He clasped his hands together. "Going negative can include everything from bad votes to extramarital affairs. And the voters say that they hate that kind of thing." He raised an eyebrow. "Polling data indicates otherwise. Eventually, yeah, your numbers will take a hit because you're being mean or whatever. But in the short term it does some serious damage to your opponent."

He walked around the room. "So the question becomes when do you go negative? Do you wait for them to start it, then strike back? Do you wait for them to start it and then have a press conference deploring their lack of propriety and whatever?"

He waved his hands at the class. "Or will you be one of those campaigns that never goes negative and then gets its ass kicked? Discuss."

Angel grinned. "You could call it E, since it's too wee to be Esme."

"I think Esme needs a pet. E? Would you like to live with me and a much bigger bunny? I can promise you gigantic carrots."

E started to Irish step-dance, kicking high. "You're sure you don't want him?"

Angel watched this critically. "He's got excellent form. Look how he's keeping his front paws down."

"He's very talented. And much less scary than Michael Flatley." Parker cocked her head as E high-stepped over to the edge of the desk, and waved to his buddies. Who waved back, then did a little kick-line. "Ooo!"

[back later tonight for more dancing bunnies. heh.]

"Wait, wait," Angel said, starting to get into it now. He quickly sketched something on a piece of paper, then carefully tore it out.

He then put two pieces of paper on Parker's desk in a crosswise fashion. On the paper was pictures of wee tiny swords.

E paused, took this in, then started doing wee tiny dance steps in the spaces around the swords.

"He's pretty good!" Angel said.

[ooc: NP. Will be at dance class b/t 6-10pm Eastern, appropriately enough. But back on after.]

"It can take years to learn that kind of footwork," Angel agreed.

The bunny in Angel's shirt pocket poked its wee tiny head out.

Not to be outdone it hopped over to Parker's desk, nudged one of the wee tiny swords with its nose so that it was on its head, then began doing belly dance while balancing the sword.

Angel watched this. "I can't tell if I'm impressed of if it's cheating since there's ears to help with balance."
