Continue Trying Not to Die, August 14, 2020

"Today we're going to the United Arab Emirates," Anakin said, pronouncing it carefully. "A desert country."

He made a little face. So much sand. Ugh.

"Put on some sunscreen, grab your sunhats so you don't catch fire and die--" that's not a real thing, "--and hop through the portal."

In Wedding Guests, you have to prepare machbūs, a traditional Emirati dish for wedding guests. After gathering and cutting up all the necessary ingredients, you have to put it into a large pot and then serve the finished dish to a wedding party to receive the next clue.

In Beauty Contest, you have to find a camel that met a set of breed guidelines and then dress it up for an upcoming camel show. If the judges were pleased with the camel selection, they would award you the next clue.

Eleanor was staying WELL away from anything involving cooking. Blame the Witcher baking class.

So she made a very good choice of camel just by finding the camel that had the cutest butt.

No judging people.

How good was Alexis at dressing up a camel? Good enough to come in first.

She felt she really bonded with her camel?

Both of these sounded stupid, but Rosa knew at least she was hot (and thinking about weddings right now freaked her out a little, for no reason, or anything...), so she figured the Beauty Contest one would go well...

...so now she was dressing up a camel. And discovering that she did not have a very illustrious career as a camel decorator in her future.

She was fine with this.

Alara decided to try the beauty contest and ended up having difficulty with finding the right breed of camel for the competition.

Once she found the right camel, the rest of it was fairly straight forward for Alara and she was able to eventually complete it and get the next clue.

Nell worked on the wedding dish. Now, she knew this was a race of sorts, but really, a special dish for a wedding shouldn't be rushed. She carefully prepared all the ingredients, consulting to make sure she used the right amounts of spices and did it all just so. Then she got the translator to help her learn a phrase or two to congratulate the couple as she served them.

They insisted she stay long enough to have some maamoul and coffee, and she could not find it in her to refuse.

You have to ride down the largest man-made river rapids in the world and collect three flags each colored red, green, and black to receive the next clue.

So...hope you can swim and/or paddle.

Yes. Eleanor could swim and paddle. She just didn't want to do it.

So she did it complaining the entire time.

Alexis had totally done this before. She was good at it, too.

Unfortunately sometimes you just had a bad day and kept missing flags.

Alara had some difficulty in grabbing the flags in the rapids but her strength helped her make up for lost time.

Oh dear. Nell was quite certain she wouldn't make it out of this one alive, but somehow she managed!

But only after getting a local to climb a date palm tree to fetch the clue to Anakin's location and then driving a dune buggy across the desert to find him.

In an oasis.

Nowhere near the sand.

Ugh, sand.

Welp. Eleanor managed to piss off the locals so she had to climb the date palm tree. Which is why she came in almost dead last.

Alexis was really pretty, so she at least got to make up some of her time in charming a local to get back right in the middle.

Alara managed to convince a local to climb the tree for her and get the clue and managed to make up considerable time that she had lost at the start.

Despite a slow start, Nell found it quite easy to charm a local into climbing the date palm tree for her. After that it was easy enough to drive to where Anakin was.
