Fandom Gladiators; Third Period [07/30].

Another week, another day in the Arena, but this time, there were several rows of foam-capped staffs not too dissimilar from giant Q-tips waiting for them, as well as pairs of very small raised platforms set very close to each other, so if you hadn't been able to put things together by now, lucky you, Rosa was about to explain.

"Today," she said, "we joust. The concept is simple: each gladiator take a platform and one of these sticks, and the goal is to knock the gladiator on the other platform off. Simple, right? We're doing this tournament style, in randomly picked pairs, a second round heat, and then a three man sudden death finale.

"So gear up and get ready to hit each other with big ass sticks, and let's stop wasting our precious beat-down time."

So this was just deeply stupid, wasn't it.

Duke examined the end of his giant q-tip. "Who comes up with this stuff?"

Breq picked up a 'big ass stick' and proceeded on to the platform.

'The Hammer' proved to be good at this, and while Breq stubbornly fought back, she eventually failed to block a blow and was pushed off the platform.

It was the arms, really. Swinging around big heavy things for optimal striking was sort of what she did. That, and she knew to use her low center of gravity to her advantage to keep those big boots of hers firmly planted on the platform.

Honestly, though, once Amaya's pugil managed to get a good whallop on Breq to the point where she went off the platform, she was a little surprised. That had definitely not been a victory easily earned, and she grinned down at Breq, wiped a little sweat from her brow.

"Good match!" she offered. "You really gave me a run for my money, there!"

Oh, Freya was ready for this. This was all incredibly familiar, reminding her of countless days of training back home in Burmecia with the other Dragon Knights, with Sir Fratley, comfortable as could be with a long staffed weapon in her paws, though the surface of the platforms were not as willing to give into gripping with the claws on her feet. No matter. It was more like surfaces slick with Burmecia's constant rain, which was still very familiar.

So she found her place and took her stance easily, readily, holding her weapon ready with one hand before the fight began in earnest, peering down her snout at her opponant with a nod.

"Ready," she said, "when you are."
