Creature Languages, 4/6, Period 3

Dream may have drawn some inspiration from the dancing lemurs of the day before, because The B-52's song Rock Lobster is blaring on an endless loop as students file in, and the desks have been pushed to the side, creating a makeshift dance floor.

"Hello. Today, we are going to learn about the lobster. Our text is an English version of an old Lobster folk tale. In Lobster, it is called, "The Human Invaders Celebrate." The translation, however, is called "Rock Lobster."

Spend this class period practicing the folk dance, as shown in in your handouts."

We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster

Motion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
He's in a giant clam

Down, down...

Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'

Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Mussels flexin'
Flippers flippin'

Down, down...

Let's rock!

Boys in bikinis
Girls in surfboards
Everybody's rockin'
Everybody's fruggin'

Twistin' round the fire
Havin' fun
Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun

Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter

Here comes a stringray
There goes a manta ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that pirahna
There goes a narwhal
Here comes a bikini whale!

Xander signed in.

He might look soaking wet and kinda cold from having walked a mile in the rain to carry 2 gallons of gas back to his dedinated car, if, you know, cars were allowed on Fandom Island and Xander actually had one and it was raining in Virginia like it is in, say, Indiana. But he's here, omg, even if his fingers still smell like gasoline. Which they don't because of course none of that happened.

Pippi loves to dance, she's very excited about this development, and she's looking for a dance partner, or two, or three.

The instructions are a little unclear.

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry Professor Dream, I didn't quite get that, could you show me again?" asked Pippi totally wishing she had a video camera to catch Dream doing "The Swim".

Pippi copied Dream's movements.

"Ah yes, I see now."

Zero made an attempt at the lobster hand gestures. She wondered how to say, 'You are delicious with butter sauce,' in Lobster, and whether or not that would be considered rude or simply true.

Paige reads the handout with a WTF expression, this is definitely one of the wierder classes she's had this semester.

Then she does her best to copy the movements acording to the instructions, she's a good dancer, but this is just odd.

Re: Classwork, Creature, 4/6

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiles and nods back moving her hips more as suggested but still looking confused, the nad gestures look more complicated than you'd think a lobster could manage really.

"Thank you sir."

Molly studies the hand out for a while before trying the dance.

Walter puts his shoes back on, despite the fact that they giggle every time he takes a step. Somehow, it just seems appropriate.

He then watches Dream instructing Pippi and does his best to dance along, keeping proper claw position in mind, because it's rude to learn someone's language just to insult them unintentionally.

Intentionally is a whole 'nother kettle of lobster fish.

Victor dances up beside Walter and helps him when needed. No, it's not just an excuse to dance with his boyfriend. Hush.

Stark has seen many strange things. This lobster dance is among the strangest.

After watching some of his classmates dance, he makes an attempt at it himself. He's not a terribly good dancer, but he's certainly enjoying himself and giggling a little crazily.

Xander listens to the instructions, takes one look at his classmates dancing, and... well, there's only two options when faced with a scene like this: pretend it's not happening and that you go to school in some safe, normal, boring place like East LA, or remember you're in Fandom, admit you know all the steps to Spice Up Your Life, and duck out to go get something from your dorm room.

"Be right back."

Re: Classwork, Creature, 4/6

[personal profile] soldtoarmenians 2006-04-06 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
After being gone for about five minutes, Xander returned wearing a Lobster Hut t-shirt, and with two red pipe-cleaners duct-taped to his forehead. He was holding an entire bag of similar pipe-cleaners, and the rest of the roll of tape.

"It just seemed necessary somehow. I blame Nadia." He looked down at the shirt. "And, oddly, Cordelia. who I miss, and pardon me while I take a moment to reflect on the comparative bizarritude of that statement versus, say, dancing about lobsters."

He put the pipe-cleaners and tape out for anyone who cared to partake, then, well... joined in the dancing. But with antennae.

Molly totally took two pipe cleaners and stuck them in her hat before she returned to dancing.

Sakura is extremely confused. Her assignment is to dance? She has no problems, being a fairly athletic person dancing shouldn't be too difficult, -- ignoring the fact that she was a total klutz -- should it?
