As if Summer wasn't already excited about this class, the fact that she had to swing by the store on her way here to pick up the overstocked goods that they'd be using in the midst of a crisis that she could easily blow out of and force Shunsui to actually deal with himself as the store owner because, oh, nooooooo, look who couldn't staaaay to help because she had a claaaass to go teaaach...

GOD, it felt good! And now she got to possibly mildly traumatize students with food again. It may be hot as balls right now and the town was probably going to be invaded with bees all hopped up on Squishy sugar, but for now, in this moment, life was good.

"Hey, everyone!" she grinned from the front of the home ec classroom, where each of the students would find a basket sitting on their station, looming with their promise of horrible reveals. "And welcome to Chopped!, Overstock Edition, where I'm basically challenging you guys to take whatever rando shit we have extra at Turtle & Canary this week and turn it into culinary masterpieces of creativity and ingenuity! For those of you where aren't familiar, Chopped is a super-addictive TV show where chefs have to do just that: they're given three mystery ingredients and they have to somehow make them work together for actual dishes, and then get judged on them, and if they win, they get money and stuff, and obviously, you're not winning money here. You're not even being graded, but if anyone's really sore about the lack of a prize, I've got T&C gift cards?

"Anyway, very simple premise, but if you have any questions, please ask, otherwise, we'll jump right into the reveal and see what you guys are cooking with today! And I do hope you all already know how to at least use a stove or microwave, because otherwise, this is going to get even more interesting than I thought..."

Well, to the introduction. You're getting to the good stuff in a second, but now might be a good time to ask questions or bring to attention to the fact that you've never even seen a toaster oven in your damn life...

Wayne never really watched a whole lot of TV outside of Canadian Pickers and hawkey, realleh, so he was looking mildly skeptical and potentially eager to challenge Summer on the idea that this was actually ever a real show, because he was pretty sure she was just pulling their legs and trying to make excuses for her specific sick brand of madness.

Tahani had burst in late because she'd been in squishy to her knees and gone back to her room to find almost all (okay, maybe half) of her clothing gone! Forever! Including that super cute dress she'd been planning to wear!

So she'd had to start completely from scratch with her hair and eye makeup and time had just gotten away from her.

And she still smelled like lemon squishy. Today was not a day to be cooking, especially since she'd spaced out during Summer's entire introduction.

"Okay, then," said Summer, "without further ado....well, okay, one more ado before we reveal the three ingredients you must have in your dish, and that's going to be today's theme."

Because random ingredients weren't enough, let's add themes to it, too!

"I figured," Summer continued, "since this is one of three cooking classes this session, and the other two have to do with baking, we'll get dessert out of the way on the first day so we can focus on other things for the rest of the class. So, in addition to using the three ingredients in your basket, you must also use them to make a dessert of some kind. Got it? Okay! Let's open those baskets! Inside you'll find:

A jar of pizza sauce
Fresh peaches
Locally-grown butter lettuce

"This is the part where we film you all having incredulous reactions to these ingredients," Summer added with a smile. "So remember, you dish must be a dessert or dessert-adjacent, and must include all three of these ingredients in some capacity. Your time starts....now!"

She should so not be as excited about this as she was.

"Fuck a duck," said Wayne, eloquently, after spending just a few minutes staring into the basket and the ingredients awaiting him inside as he tried to figure out how to traslate any of this into dessert and to not just take the whole basket and toss it in the garbage.

'Cept maybe the peaches. Those did look like some good quality peaches, which made it seem all the more tragic that they had to go and ruin 'em by getting them all mixed up in pizza sauce.

Well, tomatoes were kind of like a fruit, right? Technically? So she was making...dessert pizza! Sure!

Pizza dough (burned on the stovetop because she wasn't paying attention), peaches, lettuce, brie cheese, and honey! Sure!

Edible-adjacent.

So what have you made? Is it inspired? Is it innovative? Is it the most terrifying thing to ever be put on a plate?

Summer will be the judge of that! She's eaten ice cream with flies in it and enjoyed it, so present your end result and see how it measures up!

YOU GUYS. Every single one of these classes are going to be inspired by REAL-LIFE ACTUAL ORDERS I have received at work.

WHY ARE PEOPLE ORDERING PIZZA SAUCE, PEACHES, AND LETTUCE AND THAT'S IT?? Who are these people and what are their lives, and I must know, but I can't know, and so I shall merely transform my unanswered questions into this class.
