How to Make a Radchaai Entertainment, Friday

Between the handful of projects that Amaya had taken on recently, when exactly did she find the time to make a tiny armada's worth of tiny Radchaai ships? Don't worry about it. Where there's a will, there's a way. For all anyone knew, she'd actually made them months ago just for funsies and now finally had a good use for them. There were also some surprisingly accurate model Radchaai guns.

And here everyone thought Amaya only watched Radchaai entertainments for the explosions! Although this lesson would definitely cover that, too.

"Today," she announced to the class, as they met in the workshop classroom again, "we work on special effects! Today we're going to work on things like how to make it look convincing to have these ships fly without anyone noticing the strings, how to rig up these guns to shoot convincing lasers, and how to properly explode something," as if there was a way to improperly explode something, "once those lasers hit!"

Which meant that this was going to be a classic Amaya Instructional Ramble class today, because this was a woman who go way too into technical details and explosions, all of which was going to be incredibly handwavey so that the player didn't wind up on some kind of list for excessively googling 'how to make explosions.'

Seivarden could have added her own knowledge of explosives, but she was going to let Amaya shine here. "Let's not forget that there's a story behind the excitement of ships blowing up," she said. "Try to make some time for practicing your scenes too." That was her plan for today, to leave the special effects to Amaya and to make sure the students did an acceptable job as actors, if that was at all possible.

Well, it wasn't exactly blowing up beaver dams, but it was still blowing up something, and so this week's class certainly held Wayne's interest.

But, fuck. He could blow up beaver dams all day...

Lecture done? Everyone getting started on explosions that Amaya could clearly take care of? Okay, good. Tisarwat had questions.

"What's this I heard about a party?" she asked, because hearing her name pop up on the radio in relation to a party that she didn't even know about was important, Seivarden.

"I honestly don't think I've talked to her more than twice," said Tisarwat, her eyes wide a little bit with how bewildering this situation was, and even though it didn't make much sense, it was really hard to not be flattered by it. "Once when we took over her radio spot for Senior Radio, and then once at one of the Wednesday games when we crashed into each other. But if it means getting invited to a party, I'm not going to complain."

Especially not when she'd been really missing parties and things with her school friends.

"Radio said it was next weekend, right?"

She wondered if she should take a moment in class to thank Tahani for mentioning it; if she hadn't, she'd have to depend entirely on Seivarden to have relayed the message, and she liked that she could take the inititive on it now instead. And it was kind of silly, but it was kind of nice thinking that it made it seem like she was the sort of person that people sought out to have at their parties...

"Amaya's going, too?" Tisarwat's eyes, at this point, were never going back to down to a normal side. "And it's a party...planet?"

There was nothing about this that Tisarwat didn't like. Not even the Seivarden part, because, she had to admit, one thing she didn't know about Seivarden was how she might be in a relaxed setting like that, and that alone would be enough for her, even without all the other added bonuses.

"I mean," she laughed a little, her grin gone somewhere between sheepish and pleased, "how could I say no? If anything, I want to be rude."

Yup. Sure. Merely a simple matter of propriety.

"I'm glad to have been invited!" said Tisarwat with a small laugh. "Even if by proxy."

Confused, yes. But also glad.

And then she grinned. "If she insists on having a drinking competition with someone," she offered, "I'll be happy to take that bullet for you."

Which was an interesting choice of words, Tisarwat, because if there was one thing you were definitely not known for, it was your fortitude for alcohol.

You were talking to someone who had pissed herself to lure an enemy into thinking she was a worthless, quivering mess of nerves so she could sneak into their ships core and liberate its AI, Seivarden. Not that she would know that, but the slight, thoughtful, considering narrowing of Tisarwat's eyes as she considered how throwing up on a person might be used to her advantage might be slightly concerning.

It was not ideal, of course, but it was important to consider all strategies.

"She's pretty good, then?" she asked, thinking that a week was not nearly enough time to train up her tolerance more, as she looked toward Amaya and considered her fondly. "...I can see that."

Yeah, Tisarwat was not thinking it would be Seivarden carrying her home in this scenario, and it was a very persistent scenario that was going to play a little bit longer in Tisarwat's head before her attention shifted back to the here and now.

"But I don't even know Summer," she pointed out. "Outside of her radio broadcasts and her clumsiness, anyway. You said it's her birthday? Do I bring a present? What does she like?"

Tisarwat's brows furrowed slightly.

"Jello?"

She almost think Seivarden was joking with her if it weren't for the fact that she did actually listen to radio fairly often.

"Oh," she realized, "because she always does a special with jello on her bar nights, right?"

Was Tisarwat thinking she was now going to have to go back through old radio reports to try to parse out something better than jello?

Oh, she definitely was.

"Well," said Tisarwat, knowing it barely needed to be said to Seivarden, of all people, "you can never go wrong with tea."

But Tisarwat did like to make her gifts a little more than just the obvious, even if she didn't really know Summer at all, and it was still a little confusing why she would have wanted someone she didn't even know at her party.

Maybe something with a bucket? It would be a good call-back, for the apparent event that seemed to have sparked some sort of interest...

"If she doesn't," said Tisarwat with a small smile, "then I can only assume it's a failing on your part, Seivarden. She is your friend, after all."

Yeah. Any implications that Amaya's enthusiasm for explosions was adorable was a good way to inspire Amaya to set off targeted explosion that would be guaranteed not to be adorable, but it might give the folks down at the clinic something to do that day.

But since she was pleasantly oblivious to such things, she was only going to unwittingly continue to be absolutely adorable in her unbridled enthusiasm for explosions, thank you.

The enthusiasm for explosions was adorable, but also....mildly concerning, if Tisarwat was completely honest with herself, but she was also actually distracted enough about wanting to get through the lecture quickly because there were other very important pressing matters that she could not handle putting off for too much longer. Having it there since Thursday morning had been bad enough as it was!

But yes, Tisarwat was there, and ready to TA and be the Lord of the Radch for the most part...
