Paleontology, April 5th (7th Period)

There's a note taped to the door of the Paleo classroom.

Class is in the Danger Shop today.

Near the entrance to the shop are buckets of... well, nuts and bolts, mixed with raw hamburger meat. There are also rubber gloves. One bucket and one pair of gloves per student.

In a cage on the opposite side of the room? Three velociraptors. Or, at least, they *look* like velociraptors. If raptors were robots painted in primary colours.

The red and yellow ones are currently watching everything intently, while the blue one paces back and forth.

"Today's assignment, guys? Feed the raptors. I need you to make sure they eat everything in the bucket there."

"Before you ask? They won't bite," he says, glaring at the raptors, "because they know they'll be in trouble if they hurt anyone."

He looks back at the students. "Any questions?"

Kawalsky signed in, saw the raptors and gave Doctor Oliver a 'WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?' look, also known as his 'buh?' look.

"Sir, are you sure they don't bite? They've got pretty big teeth. Metal teeth."

"Comforting. Thanks, Doc."

After the last stint with killer robots in the Danger Shop, Kawalsky wasn't so keen on leaping head first into the feeding frenzy. Nevertheless, he picked up one of the buckets and calmly walked towards the raptors. The reason why was simple. He was the only guy in a class full of girls and there was no way in hell he was going to be scared in front of a bunch of girls.

He kept his distance at first in case the little robobastards tried to sneak around him. It was kinda hard to sneak when you were made of clunky metal, though. He stopped after a while and waited to see if the others were going to come and join the party.

Without comment, Molly grabbed a pair of rubber gloves and a bucket of... food and headed over to the cage.

She set the bucket down and pulled on the gloves. "Okay, guys," she said to the three velociraptor thingies, "who's hungry?"

"Aren't you worried they'll take that as an invitation to nibble on your liver or something?"

Molly shook her head. "If one of them tries to bite me, I'll just punch it." She gave him a big grin. "Robots tickle when they explode."

She rolled a few nuts and bolt into a ball of meat and tossed it into the cage.

"Good point." He followed the same procedure. He didn't trust the cage though. He'd seen the movies. Cages could not hold dinosaurs forever, and then there was running and screaming and disembowling. It really wasn't a pleasant experience. "So haven't really seen you since...the thing. How you been?"

Molly threw more meat into the cage.

"Classes are..." she looked around for Dr. Tommy and his smart doctor glasses, "classes. Not much else happening right now besides that," she said with a shrug.

"I've been good though. Trying not to get detention again. Got a ton of presents for my birthday last week," she said with a grin. "Oh, and I jumped off the roof last Friday. That was fun.

"How have you been?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"No jumping off the roof for me. And happy birthday. I've kinda been slack with birthdays lately. But I haven't attacked any faculty members since I saw you last. Gotta get brownie points for that, right?"

Molly grinned as she threw more food to the raptors. She sobered up then and looked down into her bucket. "I never did apologize for dropping the... thing." She looked up at him. "I am really sorry I messed up."

He shrugged. "Wasn't your fault. The plan was bad. Cam explained your powers and all that, and I knew we should've arranged something different. I was impatient and that's what blew it."

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I still feel bad for doing something as stupid as tripping." Molly gave him a significant look. "If I ever found myself in a similar situation, I would be a lot more careful."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded and tossed a ball of bolts and meat to one of the raptors. "Doesn't matter. He'll get what's coming to him."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Molly had no clue what the guy had done to begin with so she just nodded and went back to feeding the raptors.

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"These things are pretty weird, huh?" He nodded at the raptors. "Like in that movie, Triassic Gardens."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Molly grinned. "They remind me of Old Lace." She turned to explain to Charlie. "My friend Gert has a genetically engineered dinosaur that is telepathically linked to her. It's a deinonychus, but the velociraptors in that movie look almost like her."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Your friend has a real live dinosaur? Wow. That's pretty...yeah, cool." He grinned. "Sam programmed this baby bronto in Shop for me and now it follows me around during class. His name's Denver."

"He keeps drooling on my shoes, but yeah," Kawalsky nodded. "He's pretty cute."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Why did you need a baby brontosaurus for Shop class anyway?"

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I was being a smartass," Charlie admitted. "We had to swap something in our survival kits with something else, anything else. So I asked for a dinosaur so I could have a nice bronto burger. Sam programmed a baby bronto with big puppy dog-like eyes so I couldn't eat it."

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Molly laughed. A lot. "Sam wins," she finally said when she was able to stop laughing.

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "Sam definitely wins. So now I've got no food in class and a new holographic pet. Only in Fandom, huh?"

Re: Feed the raptors!

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-04-06 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Only in Fandom," Molly agreed with a grin.

"Um. These things...eat? They're not biological."

And stared some more. And wondered if she'd fail the assignment by hiding. Sharon shoved her hands in her pockets and encountered a package of twinkies.

Pulling it out, she considered. Then she narowed her eyes. Dinosaurs or not, they weren't gettin' her twinkies.
