Good morning, Fandom! It was time for the start of the third annual Summer Shenanigans, and Anakin had been secretly prepping for this since last year! (If you think that means he had a stockpile of intensely ugly t-shirts, YOU WOULD BE RIGHT. Give yourself a prize.)

There were bleachers set up for watching the events, food vendors hoping to get you to eat a variety of things that may or may not have any business being deep-fried and put on sticks, and big screens showing various parts of the island, which was definitely a hint that the games today weren't just centered in the park today.

"WELCOME!" Anakin yelled through his bullhorn at the appointed time.

Yes, he knew how to use a bullhorn. He just preferred to make it boom and squeak like that because he was kind of mean.

"Today you will be put into four teams of seven," he said, "and you will be conducting an obstacle course around the island! When your name is called, please collect your t-shirt and briefly say hello to your team."

And complain about your t-shirt color names. Pretty in Spring Turquoise wasn't close to being turquoise and the rest of them were pretty much the same color with different names, so excellent quality control there, Anakin.

"Then you will spread out to the appointed areas. I will shoot off a flare that Beaker--" Beaker meeped and waved, "--had absolutely no part in testing, and that will be your signal for the first group to begin their task. Fastest team back to the park here wins."

There was a pause.

"You win nothing but bragging rights because we've all learned from the fish incident two years ago. If you're new, well, just trust us. No one needs to win a fish." He coughed. "Anyway! Names! Listen up!"

The first two members of each team (Cait & Grog; Nina & Stark, Duke & Elli; and Mae & Julius) must tie their legs together (good thing everyone has legs! Sorry about the hilaaaarious height differences) for a three-legged race from the starting line allll the way through the park, across Apocalypse Avenue and down to the docks to high five their next teammate. Make sure the rope stays tight! If it falls off, you have to start over.

Once the third member of your team has been high-fived successfully, they must get into shark pool floats and swim their way to Galactica Point.

So hopefully Shuri, Wayne, Liam and Iris are all strong swimmers, or this could take a bit.

You can't come all the way to Galactica Point and not climb up Galactica Point, right?

Anakin has helpfully provided ropes and climbing equipment. What a guy. After your third teammate arrives from the water, high five and then Beaker (oh God), Julienne, Alexis and Amaya get climbing!

The next team member must run up alllll the steps on Leprechaun Vista and get to Chilly Boulder, where you need to order and drink a large milkshake of whatever flavor the ice cream guy feels like giving you.

Hopefully it's not gross and hopefully you don't get a brain freeze, but...Anakin is kind of betting on at least one of those happening to you, Alluka, Sabine, Summer, and Shunsui. After you're finished, hand off the empty cup to your final teammates!

Last bit to go, gang! Nothing says "good idea" like a wheelbarrow race back to the park down a bunch of stairs on Minotaur Lane, right? Right.

SORRY THAT TOOK SO LONG.

"Like, I ain't sayin' it's ugly," since she didn't mind the colour, "but I am sayin' that it ain't no shade of turquoise I ever heard 'bout..."

Still, she was going to toss it on, her hair pulling itself out of the t-shirt as she did so.

It looked pretty silly over her suit. Oh well.

Nina? Nina was totally here bright and early and already taping all of it. The screens were definitely appreciated, though, since that made her goal of sending the whole thing to Prompto so much easier.

She also nabbed some popcorn to nibble on as she waited to see who'd show up and who'd be surprised to hear their names.

She'd just been out for a walk, unaware of anything going on today, and had been vaguely planning to read a book in the park when she stumbled upon the set-up and had stuck around to watch and wonder with wide-eyes.

What on earth was going on?

"Ah, noo, whit manner o' madness is this?"

Had Cait been hiding up in a tree to avoid the goats?

Freya took a moment to consider the t-shirt she'd been handed thoughtfully, lifted her gaze around to her teammates, and sighed slightly, somewhat resigned.

"I'm started to wonder if I should bother even wearing my coat to half of these workshops and activities around here," she commented, as she worked on loosening her cravat and shrugging off her jacket yet again.

Hrmn.

Cait Sith looked up (and up and up and up) at his assigned partner.

"Weel, laddie," he said. "Ah be seeing some wee difficulties 'ere."

Duke could definitely use a distraction today, and he'd heard about this summer tradition. For better and for worse. So he was here, picking up a deep-fried . . . something . . . on a stick, and settling in to watch.

See, now, Alluka was small and cute and spent an awful lot of money in Chilly Boulder.

So when she came in, all big blue eyes, the large milkshake she got?

All the chocolate.

It took her absolutely no time at all to drink it all before bouncing out of the shop and running to pass her cup off to Astrid and Kitty!

"It's a very nice jacket," Elli said, coming over even though she still looked a bit baffled by the shirt she held in her hands.

She hadn't signed up for this?

"But it's, well, it's perhaps a bit formal?"

Duke blinked when his name was called.

"I probably should have seen this coming."

Well. He had been hoping for a distraction, hadn't he. He finished off his thing on a stick (it was tasty!) and went to join his team.

Oh no.

Iris was not a strong swimmer. She could swim but that was for fun and mostly for playing in pools. When it came to real water like this? She usually just walked over it.

(Don't think she wasn't thinking it, Anakin.)

Still, that would defeat the spirit of this stupid challenge so, still wearing her suit (with her t-shirt tossed over top of it), Iris donned the world's silliest float ~~I want one~~ and began the long, arduous task of swimming out to Galactica Point.

She'd been here for a bit. Sorry, team.

Ulysses was totally just on his way for breakfast in town. Which, yeah, meant that when he saw the food vendors here, he ended coming over to get something that had no business being a breakfast food.

And maybe a curious look at what exactly was going on here.

Duke was . . . very aware that he'd been recently arrested under suspicion of being a creep.

"Sooooo." He offered Elli an awkward smile. "You run one of these before?"

"Hell yeah, Aluminum Crab!"

Okay, yes, he'd gotten pretty into the race. He'd really needed a distraction today.
