Black Magic Cookery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Tuesday | Period 3
Was it a little weird to have to bolt from a class she was taking so that she could go and make sure all was set up for a class she was teaching? Yes, yes it was.
Luckily, Nina built to thrive on challenge like that. And she'd set it up beforehand which was, well, the real reason she couldn't do yoga this semester. She needed time to prep things beforehand! Her classroom was the Danger Shop, set up with kitchen stations for each student.
Each station was equipped with a wok, a stew pot, five measuring cups that were each filled with a different item, and a carton of twelve eggs.
There was also a camera set up to record all of this.
"Good morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said cheerfully, beaming at her students. "I'm, like, Nina Argentum and I'll be your teacher for this class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The camera is here to record class for those who can't make it but who desperately need to learn this sort of cooking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
It was going to be plastered all over her social media seconds after she was done with class.
"Cooking is, like, an art and, like, for most worlds that means making cooking as needlessly, hopelessly complicated as possible in pursuit of the so-called 'perfect recipe'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to, like, mention adding about eleven million things that aren't necessary…" Nina was a little biased against cooking in this world, yes. "In my world, cooking is an art of simplicity, of willpower, and of knowing exactly what you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"In front of each of you is a wok and a stew pot," she said, gesturing to each item as she spoke. "We'll be working with eggs today," but don't think you were going to get primarily egg dishes out of this, "and these measuring cups each hold a cupful of sugar, salt, soy sauce, mayonnaise, and red pepper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These are the only spices my world works with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Those five things were totally all spices. Yup.
She picked up an egg. "With this one egg, I can make either ice cream or tamagoyaki, which is a type of rolled omelette. You might think that ice cream needs sugar to be made but, like, you'd be wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Adding any spice to this dish will give you something else entirely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"For instance, if you add a cupful," yes, an entire cupful; "of sugar to your one egg, you'll get pudding or an omelette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A cupful of salt, on the other hand, will get you either flavoured ice or an adult fried egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"This is why it's, like, absolutely imperative that you know what you want to make before you make it," Nina said earnestly as she set her egg back down. "If you don't know what you want, you're just going to wind up with a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
She clapped her hands together. "Okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Names and one dish you want me to cover—though, like, with seven weeks I make no promises!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After that, we'll get to making ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
[OCD is up!!!!!! :D]

Listen to the Lecture!
Re: Listen to the Lecture!
Oh, but Summer was so, so stoked about this, and could already tell that it was going to be a masterpiece, even of it was going to make her miss being the one to make people WTF over food...
She had no doubt in her mind that Nina was going to do the Art of WTF Cooking proud this session.
Re: Listen to the Lecture!
And she still didn't understand how this worked.
Re: Listen to the Lecture!
Honestly, she was mostly excited to get to the part where they got to eat, her feet doing a little dance on the floor while she waited.
Introductions!
Re: Introductions!
Re: Introductions!
She just wasn't going to promise a date!
Re: Introductions!
The frozen pizzas. He burned frozen pizza.
Re: Introductions!
He may wind up with other sorts of messes but burning wasn't going to happen!
Re: Introductions!
Coming up with an answer to the second part of her question was harder, gobsmacked as he was by that lecture (and they hadn't even gotten to the in-depth explanation of the movements yet!). So, uh. Give him a minute?
Re: Introductions!
... Partly because of how weird almost everyone else thought it was!
She grinned at him. "Nothing you want to try making later this semester, Major???????????????????"

She wanted to know HOW.
The Art of Cooking!
Move Your Body!
There were still no knives to chop with, no spoons to stir with, and no actual seasoning containers. This did not seem to bother Nina.
"For the first one, when you cross your arms, make sure that your dominant arm is crossed over your other arm and that the arms are not nestled against your chest but held two inches away with your back straight and your shoulders in a perfect line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you've got that done, your toe should be tapped with the foot that's opposite of your dominant hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm left-handed so that means I'd be tapping my right foot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yes, yes she was demonstrating as she talked.
"For the deliberate stirring, you must make sure that your back is straight, your shoulder are a perfect line," look posture was super important in cooking, "and that your non-dominant arm----for me that's my right arm----is held so that your elbow is on the same height as your shoulder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, when you stir, make sure you do it clockwise in wide circles maintaining a consistent pace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Cool tossing means that you're going to be touching the handle of your wok," Nina said cheerfully. "Like, you're going to want to maintain your posture-------remember that keeping your back straight and shoulders firm is always going to be helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feet should be firmly planted and your non-dominant hand should be resting on your hip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you grip the wok, you're going to want to make sure that you've got a firm hold on it and then flick the pot with your wrist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's okay if your arm moves a bit but most of the motion should come from your wrist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Exhilarating chopping keeps the same straight back and shoulders, but your arms are positioned so that they're bent at a 90 degree angle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your hips should be straight, with your feet placed so that they're aligned with your shoulders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, you grip the knife," that she still didn't have any set out, "in your dominant hand and go hog wild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just make sure that you chop in a straight line and always maintain a distance of at least two inches between your knife and your other hand's fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Finally, the frantic seasoning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hips straight, feet positioned so that they're aligned with your shoulders, back and shoulders straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Seriously, posture was super important for cooking! "Then grip your two seasoning shakers," that she didn't have but that wasn't stopping her from gripping the air as if she was holding them, "and hold them upside down and then shake, shake, shake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you alternate arms while you shake and that one arm should always be raised higher than your head, keep those elbows locked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Did that sound like a way to make a mess everywhere? Yes, yes it did.
"Questions????????????????????????? If not, like, I want everyone to practice each of these moves at least once before you begin cooking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: Move Your Body!
Actually, he had several, but he'd take it one offense at a time.
Re: Move Your Body!
Re: Move Your Body!
Larceny ran through it once, perfectly. Because this was how she learned: watching someone do it and then flawlessly copying their movements.
So that was arms crossed, foot tapping then a deliberate stir then toss the wok, toss the wok! Followed by fast fast choppity chop and, Larceny's favorite, the seasoning. Oh, the seasoning.
Re: Move Your Body!
Re: Move Your Body!
She wouldn't put it past Nina for this to be an elaborate rouse to coordinate them all into a dance routine...?
Cook that Egg!!!!!
"Ice cream comes in a lot of flavours so make sure to know what flavour you want before you drop the egg," shell and all, "into the stew pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you've done that, I want you to listen to the egg and go with the flow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
She was still going to insist that there was no magic involved in this.
"No cooking routine is ever the same because no egg is ever the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like no two chefs are the same and no two flavours are ever the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your perfect vanilla might not be your neighbours perfect vanilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, like, while you're cooking it's important to keep in mind what you want to make, the flavour you want to make it, and who you're making it for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"We're focusing on ice cream today, so I want everyone to think about that first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you succeed, we'll move onto tamagoyaki but no pressure, this is everyone's first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So think about your favourite ice cream flavour, since you're making this for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you've got that all firmly in mind, drop one egg into either your pot or your wok-------------which ever feels right to you--------------and then move with the egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Nina beamed at them all like she wasn't demanding all the weird, impossible things.
"I'll demonstrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said and, dropped one egg into her stew pot, shell and all. No, she hadn't turned on the burners either.
Nina was still for a moment before she exploded into action, frantically seasoning her now boiling stew pot with shakers that had appeared out of nowhere, then transitioning seamlessly into cool flipping her wok which… seemed to have somehow picked up something that looked an awful lot like rice to toss about, sizzling in the wok, as she abandoned that task and flipped over to chopping what was possible lettuce. Or cabbage. On a chopping board with a knife that definitely hadn't been there a moment ago. Then she toe tapped like a champ before stirring her stew with a spoon that hadn't been there a moment before…
And then, as abruptly as she'd started, she was done. And an absolutely perfect bowl of strawberry ice cream, topped with more strawberries, was on the counter. In a bowl that had appeared out of nowhere, complete with a spoon.
All of her dishes were clean, too, with no sign of the shakers or the knife or the spoon for the stew pot.
Nothing remained of the egg either.
"And that," Nina said, as she picked up her ice cream, "is how you make ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any questions?????????????????? If not, then get started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Talk to Professor Argentum!
Even though by this world's standards it shouldn't exist at all.
OOC
Also yes, it is established in game that Nina's method of cooking can and will succeed for people who aren't her!
