Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2020, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

There were normal traditions, and there were Fandom traditions, and having this party get started right around dusk was definitely a Fandom tradition. As the sun went down, the finishing touches of decorations were made; the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, and there were chairs set up for all of the graduates, along with plenty of seats for guests to come and watch. The weather was behaving itself, and it looked like it would be a nice, warm spring evening.

Congratulations, Class of 2020! You made it!

Even though Gladio still didn't know what to think about even half of the stuff he heard about this place (including whether or not to even believe any of it), he snorted a laugh as he tried to picture that. "Here's to hoping no one's allergic, then," he said, with all the confidence of someone who figured he'd do pretty well in that challenge; he was an excellent speller, but he was pretty sure Noct and Prompto would be doomed.

"If they are, someone here will be able to save them," she assured him with the confidence of having survived two years on this island herself. "And as far as I know the island's never repeated itself for graduation.............."

"That's..." Gladio's brow knitted a little as he tried to think of what word he was looking for, feeling it would probably be easier once he got to witness this apparent doom firsthand, "...creative of it."

Sure. He'll go with that.

'Creative' was more than enough to cover what he'd heard about this place.

"It's only blown up the school once in the history of the island," she offered. "Like, as far as I can tell?????????????????????"

Nina liked listening to old broadcasts far, far too much.

That knitted brow was leading into a much more concerned expression now.

"At least," he said, looking back out over the chairs on the lawn where the graduates would be sitting soon and measuring the distance and considering the best exit strategies, "it got that one out of the way already..."

There was a pretty big leap between spelling bees and exploding schools, Nina, that was an incredible wide margin to fill...

Yeah, see, that was the thing about this island? Back home that would've been a lot more concerning.

"Don't worry," she said, reaching out to pat his arm. "They've made sure it can't do stuff like that again. Nothing terrible's going to happen to Prompto or put Noctis in danger."

Well, he wasn't really concerned about Prompto so much....

Gladio grunted a little, folding his arms in front of him, and narrowing his eyes speculatively at Nina. "I was hoping," he said, "that this would be more of aday off."

Even if there weren't really any days off.

"It is, it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she protested earnestly. "Like, it's way more likely that they'll get turned into their animal forms than anything terrible happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Gladio's expression was still doubtful, though he didn't really want to dig into the whole 'animal forms' thing too much if he could help it.

"Guess we'll just have to see," he ventured. "If shit goes down, though....you owe me one."

What she'd owe him, he didn't know, he'd figure that part out later.

"I suppose he'd have to blink a few times," she said gravely. "I realize this would be a terrible tragic situation for all involved, but blinking isn't something you could help him with............."

Then she started giggling.

Gladio had to grin a little at that, the giggling reminding him a little of Iris, which then caused a snort because, gods, those two...

"he's got to learn some time, right?" he chortled. "No time like the present."

Noctis had much bigger problems than just confetti in his eye, but, hey, that might actually not be a bad place to start...

"The problem would be convincing Ignis to go for it," she said, still giggling. "I mean, like, he's a bit.............."

Nina cast a glance back over at Noct and Iggy, then leaned towards Gladio, with, "He's kind of like an over-bearing mom................"

"Right down to always making sure we eat our vegetables," said Gladio, who fully appreciated getting to hear someone else actually say what he'd thought so often.

"I've seen some of the work you and Prompto have been doing around here with that bus," he then ventured. "Maybe this'll be a good....Gladio-and-Prompto-only project..."

So it turns out the kid could be useful after all! Not that Gladio was going to say that part in front of Nina.

Good call, Gladio, unless you wanted to be smacked by someone who was a lot stronger than she looked.

"Just be careful how you put it," Nina suggested. "Because, like, Prompto thinks Noctis is awesome the way he is??????????????? But learning to do a few things for himself would............."

Well. Honestly.

It would make Noctis more attractive.

"It'd be good, since he's got that whole wanting to be treated like normal people are thing going on??????????????? But then he's really, really terrible at acting like a normal person. So terrible, Gladio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
