Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2020, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

There were normal traditions, and there were Fandom traditions, and having this party get started right around dusk was definitely a Fandom tradition. As the sun went down, the finishing touches of decorations were made; the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, and there were chairs set up for all of the graduates, along with plenty of seats for guests to come and watch. The weather was behaving itself, and it looked like it would be a nice, warm spring evening.

Congratulations, Class of 2020! You made it!

And that picture would almost be enough to make it up to Iris for her not being able to be there!

"You're almost as bad as Prompto, with those drive-by selfies," Noctis groused, although there didn't really seem to be that much complaint to it...not any more than usual, anyway. "If you're going to do that, you should at least give me time to prepare."

Not quite, but almost!

Nina would just have to make up the rest by inflicting herself upon the Amicitia family for a sleepover one weekend soon.

"The whole point is to not give you time to prepare!!!!!!!!!!" she protested, smiling, as she let him go free. "Otherwise, like, we'll get the same three expressions from you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Three was being incredibly generous, Nina.

"That's not true," Noctis countered. "And don't act like you wouldn't prefer to have a warning before hand, too..."

A pause.

"More of a warning," he amended.

It really was. Man of many facial expressions was... not Noct.

"Well, maybe," Nina conceded, "but, like, it's okay when I'm the one doing the surprising?????????????????"

"Because that's fair," said Noctis, who now wondered if he could manage to surprise Nina at some point before they left tomorrow, but also feeling very much like there was no way he could pull that off without Prompto's help.

They were definitely going to have to try and surprise her at some point before they left tomorrow now, a thought that might have managed to make him grin faintly.

See? An expression! One he didn't realize he was making, but that wasn't the point!

But it made him look really cute.

"Fair is for people who aren't me," she told him loftily, grinning at him. "Besides, like, it's revenge................"

"Revenge?" Noctis asked, with the tone of a person who wasn't sure he wanted to really know, with a slight grunt of amusement. "Revenge for what?"

"Terrifying my boyfriend," she said loftily. "Because I mentioned your idea of my transferring to him and he was, like, not a fan..................."

That answer...did not help.

"I don't even know your boyfriend," Noctis argued, as if he couldn't possibly terrify someone he didn't even know, "and it was just an idea, you know, because...you were upset...about Prompto leaving."

And it seemed like a completely logical solution to him.

"I mean," he added, "he could transfer, too."

Oh, Noctis.

"Oh my gosh," she said, eyes wide. "I cannot believe you just suggested that??????????????????"

It was this way that, like, it was abundantly clear that Noctis did not know how the little people lived.

"Like, Noct," Nina said, "I appreciate it, I really do, and don't think I haven't considered just packing a bag and coming with you guys despite saying I wasn't going to come..........."

Because Nina had considered it more than a little.

"But we can't all just.......... move to Insomnia............."

"Why not?" asked Noctis, genuinely confused about her reaction, because it seemed pretty simple to him. "I mean, I don't know your boyfriend's situation, so maybe I can see why it wouldn't be as easy for him, but you're already a citizen, even...I'm just saying...it's a possibility."

Heck, she was already an employee of the Crown! Not that Nina was going to tell him that.

"I know, it's just......... there's stuff I have to do in my world too," she explained. "And I can't, I mean, they raised me, you know????????????? I owe it to them to do what I can to repay that before I do anything else........."

Nina seemed to have no problem getting between worlds, he knew, so Noctis didn't even see what the point she was trying to argue with that was. What was the difference if she was going to school here or in Insomnia, compared to what she had to take care of back home? It didn't make sense to him, but he could tell that he would just be arguing with someone who didn't want to be convinced, and he knew that if Nina was anything when she got an idea in her head, it was stubborn and unrelenting, so...

He sighed, shrugged his shoulders, and looked away. "Yeah," he said. "It was just a thoought, anyway."

"It's a good thought," she said, reaching out to him. "I appreciate it and, like, don't think it's not tempting-----it is............"

Nina considered him.

"Has, like, Prompto told you anything about what I do back home????????????????"

Noctis didn't really move away or anything when Nina reached out, but he didn't really do anything to respond back, either. He just shrugged again.

"Not really," he admitted. "Mostly spy stuff, things like that, right?"

"Yeah, spy stuff," she said, "but since I'm an orphan, I was raised by the state and, it's............ it's not like Insomnia much at all?????????????? When no one wants you and you're just a nobody, you have to make yourself be useful for anyone to pay attention to you.................."

Nina shrugged, pulling back into herself a little.

"I mean, like, I owe them. They could have just left me to die."
