Magical Theory (Wednesday, 04/05/2006, 4th Period)

"All right, guys, today we're going to start working on your final project," said Jenny. "In other words, pick a topic about magic that you'd like to do research on--you're going to give presentations. It may be something we've covered previously in class. It may be something we've never talked about, but that you've got some curiosity on. Come up with a proposal, and let me know what it is you'd like to do."

OOC: Today is the day that Macbeth will be coming in to wreak a little havoc. And he'll be in a towering fury. Yay! Again, no one will be penalized on any sort of OOC or IC level for not wanting to deal. Simply "forget" to come to class and Jenny will "forget" to mark you down points-wise for not being here. Macbeth will not be posting until Wednesday night on this one.

"I was thinking about the fate thing. Prophecies, future, yam shabamalam," Xander said, looking, well, thinky. "Like maybe some stuff is inevitable, but... almost everybody I know here from home is from a different version of home, so obviously some stuff isn't carved in stone."

"So you're thinking more 'how fate affects us' or 'how fate affects different versions of us?'" asked Jenny.

"Or maybe the different versions are only different because fate isn't the be-all end-all? So... maybe I see if I can't find some history on different AU versions of the same person, and show where they got screwed by destiny, or didn't, or got out of it by choosing to do something else?"

Kiki raises her hand. "Are we allowed to use or demonstrate magic in our final projects? I mean - just small spells, nothing large or destructive, of course."

"I'd have to say that you're going to have to run any possible demonstrations by me," said Jenny. "We'll work it on a case-by-case basis, depending on what you want to do."

OOC: And I'd have to know if you were planning for something to go wrong too. Because I think we'll end up running possible final project hijinks by the entire class to see what fun stuff we can come up with.

"I was thinking about discussing how spell casting for personal gain can go very very wrong," Piper said.

"I think that's a very good idea, Piper," said Jenny. "Do you have examples to bring into the presentation too? Or is it purely theoretical?"

"Maybe something on styles of magic in different worlds?" Krycek posited. "As in, some seem to have a prevailing system - where only those born with the ability can do magic, some where anyone can, some where the existence of magic is doubtful."

Jenny nodded. "That's a very good idea, Alex," she said. "Go with that one, and we'll see what you can dig up."

OOC: Macbeth? You might want to come in here...

Macbeth had been standing outside the doorway for a good portion of the fourth period, having not been in the mood to attend his own classes today. Or on Tuesday. Or Monday.

To say that the events of the weekend had gotten to his head would have been a bit of an understatement. He had been attacked on two separate occasions, once by some hideous fish-beast, and again the next day by a magic-propelled ball of glass. And to make matters worse, when he had returned to his room on Saturday, it was an insane mess... and his walls were blood red.

Walls that had haunted him every time he had opened his eyes for four days now. And here he was, at the doorway to a classroom inside which was taught the bane of his existance. Behind that door, some twisted individual was teaching young minds about that so-called 'craft' that had crushed so many lives around him.

He rested his hand on the door handle and closed his eyes, trying to reason his way out of this anger.

All he saw was the red of his walls... the red of the blood that he had spilled in Scotland... and the door was open and he was walking into the classroom.
