Leadership and Teamwork, Tuesday, January 21, 2020 [1st period]

There was a quiz already queued up for the class when they arrived. Or there was supposed to be, but it just kept glitching no matter what the teachers attempted.

"So, some technical difficulties today," Tony said, giving the computer an annoyed look.

"One of the time-tested and...well, not exactly all that helpful, but a good ice breaking approach, is for a new team to take a personality test to see how different people approach different problems," Steve said. "There have been ones about colored parachutes, ones that are about introversion and extroversion, and we were trying to get one of those for you to take. What we keep getting, though--"

"Is from Buzzfeed." Which clearly did not impress either teacher.

"And about food." Steve waved his hand. "So take a test on your weird food opinions and we'll...work with the results."

Somehow.

"We'll make it work," Tony added with some forced cheer.

Yeah, Tisarwat's results were going to be skewed very heavily based on the fact that she didn't know what most of this stuff really was, and so she was mostly going based on whether or not it looked familiar and whether or not it looked like something that would be eaten with your bare hands. Finger foods were going to get immediate yucks, but most of it was getting yums just based on the fact that she either was glad to recognize it or could think of a Radchaai equivelent that she also enjoyed.

Nell wasn't entirely sure how she felt about her result, but since she'd never tried a lot of the foods she figured it didn't matter much.

"Apparently," Tisarwat reported, "I have a unique sense of humor that isn't for everyone and might repel those who don't understand it."

There was a slight, considering pause.

"I think, though, that's more 'I am very Radchaai and this is very much not a Radchaai world' than anything else."

She was working on it, though!

"It would be interesting to see," Tisarwat said, with a fainty amused tilt of her head, "how many people from non-Earth-like places wound up on the 'unique sense of humor' side of this quiz compared to those more familiar with Earth-like foods. And I wonder what a quiz like this about tea would have to say."

Because of course she would.

"That I have a realistic worldview?" Jules said dubiously. "Which seems odd, considering I only knew about what half of those foods even were. But maybe it's because I claimed to be 'neutral' on all of those, since I can't pass any sort of judgement until I've tried them."

Which was probably more in-depth analysis than a Buzzfeed quiz was meant to provide, but she also had no idea what Buzzfeed was, so.

Jules looked over the list on the quiz again, listing them off:

"Mayonnaise, black licorice, candy corn, white chocolate, pineapples- I've had pizza, actually, since coming here, but I don't know what a pineapple is. Tofu, kale, and coconuts."

So... basically anything that involved a significant amount of processing, or hadn't grown on Fennbirn.

It was entirely possible she'd at least had mayonnaise in the almost-a-year since she'd been on the island, even if she hadn't actually know that's what it was. The rest was still new. And-

"What's the problem with pineapple, exactly?"

"But isn't the sauce made from tomatoes?" Jules countered. "That's a fruit."

Also she'd definitely had pizza with more than just pepperoni and sausage on it, and enjoyed it just fine.

"That much I know," Jules said with a wry smile. "The village I lived in back home was responsible for most of the hunting and farming for the island."

... Perhaps she would introduce pizza to Fennbirn.

You know, after she got done falling in with a rebellion and all.

"Fennbirn is very... insular," she said, trying to find a way to put it delicately. "People there don't get terribly excited about new ideas, for the most part."

Except for those aforementioned rebels, but she didn't actually know about them yet.
