So You Want to Be a Pirate!, Wednesday, period two
"Arr, ya filthy landlubbers!" Duke greeted at the top of the class — still a couple minutes late, though this time appearing in the rigging, leaning casually amongst the ropes, rather than stumbling in the door after being pushed by a moose.
Never let it be said that Duke was unwilling to commit to a bit.
"Look at the grubby lot of ya! Hardly a one come prepared to sail these seven seas!" He dropped to the deck in front of the students with a stumble he very quickly turned into a swagger. This week, he looked every inch the pirate, from his tall, shiny leather boots to his long hair kept out of his face by a bandana and a hat. He tipped said hat back on his head as he strode across the deck, one hand on the hilt of the cutlass on his belt, surveying the students and occasionally nodding or nudging them into line. "Why, I be almost afraid to call any one of ya my crew." He leaned in close to one of the students with a scowl, then straightened again and smiled. "But only almost."
He kicked one of the crates dotting the deck, causing its wooden sides to collapse in a heap and reveal a pile of cloth in a wide variety of colors, cuts, and states of repair.
"In the crates and barrels and — aye — at least one treasure chest around ya, ye'll be finding the sorts of garments ye'll be needing to be a proper pirate on this ship. Ya got yer vests!" He drew his cutlass, pulling a long, vented black vest from the pile. "Ya got yer jackets! Yer puffy shirts, yer tatterred pants — or skirts if those be more yer fancy! Hats and boots and bandanas galore and aye —" He turned dramatically as he reached the edge of the deck again. "Yer eye patches." He pulled his own patch out of his pocket and held it aloft. "Ye'll be wantin' one of these when it's time to go below-decks. But we'll be coverin' that sort of thing at a later date."
He gestured to the door leading into the ship behind him. "For those of ya with a modest disposition, thar be changin' rooms below decks. But I warn ye, there ain't much privacy in a ship's berths.
"If'n ya already came prepared to class in the proper attire, or find your outfit quickly, I'll ask that ye lend a hand to yer shipmates. A pirate crew must be fierce! It must be fearless! And most importantly, it must work as a team, or we'll all be meetin' in Davy Jones' locker, see if we don't!" He waved the cutlass again grandly, then hopped up to sit on top of a handy barrel. "When ye're all finished, we'll be havin' us a little fashion show, so we can all admire our new, rebellious sartorial choices. Now hop to! Or ye'll be walkin' the plank instead of the catwalk!"

Listen to the lecture
Re: Listen to the lecture
Square-toed boots made of peacock-blue sharkskin, enhanced with brass buckles across the ankle and brass frogs up the side - which were, of course, shaped like actual frogs. Socks were visible between boot top and the just-under-knee cuff of her pants, one leg had little pirate skulls in eye patches and bandannas, the other was patterned with clockwork gears and pistons. The knee-pants were red and white striped with some black skull lace around the hems and contained enough yardage that should it be required, they could probably be sacrificed and cut into a new sail for the mast. If she jumped from the crow's nest, they could double as a parachute. An iridescent purple leather belt was double wrapped in a loose cross around her waist, the buckle a silver stylized dragon head. Leather loops on the belt held pouches, a pistolet (Nerf), a cutlass, a leather tankard and a pocket watch. The shirt was mint green and embroidered with little gold squids, the front of it puffed along the buttons with an entire froth of cream lace. The ascot at her neck was bright orange and the pin was a matching copper squid. The jacket was purple ombre, starting at almost white at the neck cuff and becoming midnight violet at the hem, done in an embroidered motif of pirate ships and skeletons and swords. Today's hat was a bicorn style felted hat tie-dyed a rainbow of hues. Little pyramid biker studs were tacked around the edge. Delirium's eyepatch was made of silver mesh with a Jolly Roger on the front.
She loved this class. Loved. It.
Re: Listen to the lecture
But, he couldn't be too bothered by it, really, because it would still be rather fun, and it was hard to be bothered by anything when there was an adorable, albeit angry, little bluebird on his shoulder, accompanying him to class. Even in her current state, he doubted Vette would like to miss their pirating class, and he came prepared, and rather fittingly, he thought, for the class, with a bolt of cloth draped rougishly over one arm in case of a mid-class transformation emergency.
He might not wear clothes, but he still knew what was up for those that did!

Re: Listen to the lecture
since the ping was already made lol, "to see what might be suitable for a Zora pirate in this particular instance, though, I assure you, the bird shall be the most piratical detail of all, because this bird is actually Vette!"Re: Listen to the lecture
"Of course she is."
. . . . . . . . .
"Does she do that a lot?"
Re: Listen to the lecture
"Not often, no," he said fondly. "And thank goodess for that, as I'm sure we all much prefer her usual form. It should be cleared up in a few days, but, since we have this class together, I figured there's no reason she should have to miss it unless she wanted to."
Re: Listen to the lecture
Which . . . sure thing. Thanks, Fandom.
"Well. Glad she could make it. I . . . hope she has fun, I guess."

Re: Listen to the lecture
She was pretty sure that the pirates she knew would not be as amused about today's class as she was.
Uma and Harry would probably never be caught in some of this stuff.
Choose your outfits
Re: Choose your outfits
Boots? Why, they would cover his claws, which worked well to help him with his footing and maintain his balance on deck.
Breeches? Why, they would have to fit either over or under his skirtfin, which would be terribly awkward and uncomfortable.
Shirts? Well, those particularly billowy and blousey ones did have an appeal to him from an aesthetic standpoint, but a shirt would cover the gills on his chest and sleeves would crush his shoulder fins!
A hat? Well. He did find a rather dashing hat that he managed to perch on his head in a way should stay put! And he'd found a tiny little one for Vette as well!
Since the hat was blue and his adorable, precious "parrot" companion was blue, he then figured he could do a little more by giving himself a newly swashbuckling blue sash and a belt with a little more swish to it than his current one, and then contemplated whether or not the elastics or strings on any of those eyepatches were lengthly enough to account for being worn by a Zora prince.
Re: Choose your outfits
"I can alter one for you if you really want one? That way it fits you perfectly and isn't annoying."

Both sides of the plank. Down to the end, around the end, along the bottom, and then back again.

Re: Show off your outfits
Del walked back up to the top of the plank and beamed. "Arrr! Can I look in the boxes too?"
Re: Show off your outfits
Re: Show off your outfits
Maybe Duke would let him take a dive off the plank afterwards, when everyone was finished and he'd had a chance to set Vette safely aside.
Re: Show off your outfits
"Very nicely color coordinated, Sidon. Ye'll be the best-not-dressed zora pirate on the seas."
