It was the first day of a new semester! The first day of Tip's senior year! Fresh new classes! New beginnings!
It was also Labor Day. In Fandom. In the library. So instead of properly appreciating the shiny newness of the school year, Tip found herself having to make her way through a picket line of striking books, calling her a "scab" and beating on her calves and ankles with their protest signs.
"If I put on some Woody Guthrie, will you let me at least sit down?" Tip asked. The books seemed to discuss that among themselves. One of the smaller ones (a paperback romance, oddly enough), came over and handed her a sign.
Tip sighed and sat down on the floor in front of the circulation desk, searching for pro-union playlists on Spotify. Hey, she believed in collective bargaining. She had no idea what the books' actual demands were -- as far as she knew they were actually perfectly well treated in here -- but at least the contemporary lit and pulp sci-fi were getting along for once. . . .
