Introduction to Law Enforcement, Monday

"Well, hello, children."

Lucifer was clad in an impeccable black suit with a red vest and - of course - matching pocket square. He was also clad in the world's broadest insincere smile. "My name is Lucifer Morningstar, though you can call me Beelzebub in a pinch if you prefer," he began, with his heavy posh British accent in full swing. "I'll be your - ugh, I can't believe this - teacher for this semester in all things law enforcement."

A pause.

"I am not a cop, mind you. No, the cops have their own ways of going about this sort of thing, they can just be so... limited. A tragic thing, because finding the wicked, punishing them, that's no small task for any human to bear. Sometimes you won't get where you need to be with a dour face and your best Miranda-ing shout, you need wit and charm and a willingness to trade some trivial bit of evidence for more insight."

He was keeping his distance from the children. They seemed hateful.

"But that'll be next week's lesson. I've been told by this lovely brochure that the first week is introductions and I don't actually have to do anything." He gestured at a random student. "You. Your name, your class, and... ah, I don't know. Someone wicked you've once punished?" His expression went... difficult. "Or just tell us what you desire most from these next few months, whatever suits your fancy."

He sprawled in his seat, eyeing the class with a mixture of casual disdain and genuine concern.

It was nice to have a teacher with a proper Kaas accent, even if around here that probably didn't mean he was from Kaas. It was both comforting and terrifying, a bit like home.

Elisabeth didn't recognize either of the names, didn't know what Miranda-ing meant, and was mostly just taking notes with a quill and parchment like she was back in the Library. She could see how this class could be useful for her as a warden, even if everything about it, down to the teacher's dress, struck her as very odd.

Delirium absolutely giggled when he said 'Beelzebub' because come on and then quietly repeated it with the overtone of a hive of bees buzzing - or a swarm of flies droning, to be more accurate. "BeeeeeeEEELLLLzeeeeeeebbbbbbubbbbbbbbbbb.." And then, for gits and shiggles, she pronounced it accurately, "Ba'al Zəbûb." Squinched her mouth to one side and then the other and spoke softly, mostly to herself or perhaps to Barnabas. "Kind of neat, huh? How they took a Ba'al word and made it Be'el to make it more like angels and give it the 'el 'of god' meaning. I guess 'Ba'al' would sound too much like 'ball' and kids would laugh because 'balls', huh?"

Barnabas was going to be right there next to the desk trying to sink through the floor and putting his paws over his eyes. Muttering, "Delirium, please. Pay attention to the class. Please?"

"Oh fine," she sighed, crossing her arms on the desk and resting her chin on them so she could watch Lucifer intently. Paying attention to him.

Illyana was doing her best to not bolt out of her chair, and was about thisclose to sitting on her hands to keep them from twitching for her Soul Staff.
