BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

One moment, there was nothing in the lounge except seating, banners, balloons, and a sign reading 'FANDOM HIGH'. The next moment, a swirl of a portal opened up and a small, white cat-like creature hopped out of it with a flirt of his tail. The concept of interplanetary travel was not new to Kyubey and he was mostly of the opinion that it just made sense that interdimensional travel was not much different, aside from the scale.

With a jump up onto a nearby bench, Kyubey glanced around at the airport—it looked much the same as any human airport that he'd seen--before settling down, head resting on his paws.

He was early, as he'd meant to be, which meant he was the first one here. Good, good. He'd get a chance to see the quality of the new students before gauging the potential of the current ones. The lure of so much energy, just waiting to be harvested… well, he couldn't be careless.

With a twitch of his ears at that thought, Kyubey waited.

Watched.

"Not as flashy," Kuroko answered with a little grin.

There was a soft, almost electronic hum, and suddenly Kuroko was standing about five feet to the right.

Illyana reflexively sniffed the air as Kuroko vanished, searching for the telltale scent of sorcery.

"Invisibility, or teleporting?" she asked as the other girl reappeared. "What was that sound?"

No smell, not even the movement of air, just that weird sound.

"Teleporter." Kuroko's look was almost arrogant. "Level 4."

"And the sounds? It's just how I imagine it's supposed to sound, I guess? I never really thought about that too much, now that you mention it."

"There's levels? No one ever told me there's levels." To be fair, she'd run away from Xavier's before she could be taught much about her mutation.

"Really? What about classifications? Like, do you know what kind of power you have?" Was this girl a Gemstone? Someone who developed her powers outside of the rigid structure of Academy City?

"Teleportation. I did pay enough attention at my last school to learn that before I left," Illyana said dryly. "Their default destination is Limbo, which is a pocket dimension, but I can do short-distance jumps without a layover."

"Oh, hey, same powers!" Kuroko shot Illyana a big grin.

"Or similar, anyway. Which is lucky! I know the rules for evaluating teleporters pretty well, so if you want to try to at least guess your level, I can probably help?"
