Sure. With the Danger Shop, Amaya figured she could easily bypass the whole 'all my weapons are hammers and flowers right now' thing with a little bit of programming. But, if she was really honest with herself, she felt that this week was offering them a very unique opportunity to explore a weapon a bit more unconventional that she'd honestly not have thought of before but was definitely already making some plans for. Plus, she felt it would be a lot of fun.

Diaz didn't think so. Diaz thought the whole idea was stupid, but, well, this wasn't really Diaz's class, now, was it? She was just there to help. And Diaz could do whatever she wanted for her class later in the week. This one was all Amaya.

Which meant...

"Shells!" She beamed as she held one up almost proudly, because she'd stomped this one her very self and it was way more fun than it had any right to be. "Now, I'll be honest with you all, I have absolutely no experience using shells as weapons, which means we're learning about this one together. Also, that means I don't have a whole lot about the history of using shells as weapons, especially since this week is the first week I've ever heard of it, but that's all the more reason to take some time and really get to know how to use them and see what kind of damage they can do.

"The design is surprisingly aerodynamic," she offered, tracing a finger along the curve of the shell and the bottom of it, "great airfoil, which means the air is going to pass faster over the top of the shell than under it, resulting in a greater pressure from below and less drag, and the holes where the turtly thing used to be creates some interesting airflow, as well. And it's hard," she knocked on it sturdily, grinning faintly at the hollow sound it created, "so you know if you get enough force behind this thing, you can do some real damage!

"How much damage?" she asked. "Well, let's find out! Today, we're going to experiment a bit and figure out how to use these things effectively in a variety of ways....err...well, it's mostly just throwing and kicking, but Detective Diaz and I will go over how to do either of those things effectively, and we'll spend some time practicing. And, of course, we're all learning together, so if you've found another way to use these shells as weapons, we'd love to add your contributions.

"If there aren't any questions," she nodded, grinning, gave her shell a little toss, "we'll just go ahead and get started."

There even was a little bit of a knowledge drop in there, yay physics! But now's definitely a good time to get in those questions before everyone starts tossing and kicking around turtle shells.

And while Rosa did think a whole unit about shells as weapons was stupid, she could hardly be too upset about the opportunity to just throw the dumb things at stuff.

"Alright," she told the students, with a pile of ready-to-go shells so that she could demonstrate each of these things as she explained her suggestions for optimal shell-tossing results, "odds are, you're going to have better targeting and aim with throwing your stupid shells than you are kicking them, though there's a good chance you'll have more force behind a kick. Tossing is going to be pretty self-explanatory, but you'll probably get the most out of your throw if you're doing a two-handed overhead toss. Or you could get more distance by trying to throw it like a discuss or a frisbee. Or toss it like a goddamn football, get a good spin on it, that's always one of my favorites for getting someone square in the back or on the back of their head.

"And then with kicking, you've just got think about where you're kicking and angles and shit, so it gets a little trickier there, but, hey, if any of you have any soccer experience, there you go. Now, you can kick it from the ground or hold the shell up, drop it, and then kick it, which gives you more redirected force but it's easier to miss where you want to make contact this way. All of these methods are definitely things that get better the more you practice them, so that's basically what we've got today. Try a bunch of different ways, Blackstone and I will tell you if you're doing it like an idiot, and then just, I don't know, get good or something.

"And," she offered, "this way, if it this is one of those weeks were things get especially dumb at the end, you'll all be slightly more prepared to take down whatever it is with one of the weapons the island is providing us with.

"We've got plenty of shells ready to go if you're kind of a wuss about stomping on turtle-looking things to get one," she added, "but seriously." She hitched her thumb toward the koopas milling around, just waiting to be stomped on, "look at how dumb those things look. You know you totally want to stomp them and steal their shells to then throw at them."

She couldn't possibly be alone in that.

Mae was all over stomping and drop-kicking today. All. Over.

If this were anywhere but the Danger Shop, her classmates should probably be wearing helmets.

Prompto...who was definitely electing to go with the ready-to-go shells because he felt bad stomping on seemingly innocent little turtle dudes...was all about this, and his technique was ridiculous and all over the place, but he was definitely flailing around in some attempts to get a sweet throw-kick combo down.

And the funny thing was, as ridiculous as he looked doing it, the more he did it, the more it was actually managing to come together into a legit sort of attack. He might actually pull it off by the end of the class.

...and then promptly never use it again in his entire life, which seemed just sad, but probably true.

Lana was fine using the ready shells. If they ran out, she'd stomp, but why do it if she didn't have to?

With the Force, she could get some pretty good throws in there, too.

Neither of which seem to have any reservations about koopa-related violence.

Don't mind Rosa. She's just going to idly kick around a shell in the downtime like it was a goddamn soccer ball and she was freakin' Pele over here.

What? Like it was hard?

See, and Amaya's technique, which she was also getting a little bit in herself, was more just about kicking as hard as she possibly could. Why would anyone bother with all that fiddly finesse stuff? Work hard, play hard, kick hard. What else did you need in life?

I, also, now want to just play Super Mario RPG, because I still find getting that Timed Hit on the Nok Nok Shell one of the most satisfying things ever.

... Wait I have a SNES Classic OKAY CRISIS AVERTED.

Though I might need to break my brother's kneecaps to get my SNES cart back anyway.

I mean, who doesn't love a little sibling kneecap breaking on a Tuesday, anyway?

It's Super Mario RPG, I'm reasonably certain he'd understand.
