International Cuisine and Grocery Run
Hannibal nodded and greeted the students at Portalocity.
"Today's Fandom seems fairly normal, although apparently we're in for another nasty one later," hey, he listened to radio, "so we'll be going on another general run. Today we're going to Tokyo, Japan. Seafood is much more prominent in Japanese cuisine than in the French we had last week, as are rice and noodles; the sauces tend to be lighter. We'll be dining at a lovely restaurant we've been to before - Mikawa Zezankyo, a restaurant that serves tempura - seafood and vegetables, deep fried. Specifically, this one serves food in the style called Edomae tempura - tempura in the style of the Edo period, approximately one hundred fifty years ago. The chef uses traditional ingredients and techniques that would not have been out of place then."
Their portal opened and he ushered them all through to a small, mostly residential street, where they stood outside an unassuming door. "Chef Tetsuya Saotome prepares all the food himself and will be standing in front of you, so I trust you will all use your best behavior," he told them. "I will demonstrate the use of chopsticks to those of you who've never used them, and I trust your classmates who know how will also help. Also, when we enter, you'll need to remove your shoes and leave them by the door; it's tradition and proper etiquette. If you have any questions, please ask me, as the chef and his assistants do not speak English.
"After that, we will be making a trip to Nissin World Delicatessen. They have foods from around the world, as well as a very good wine selection should our water turn unpotable, and a sizeable garden shop."

Listen to the lecture
Re: Listen to the lecture
It helped, too, with how much Tokyo reminded him of Insomnia, although he was a little worried that this might make him just feel homesick again and regret his choice (ha, right, choice!) to come back. He was determined, though, to just sort of revel in the similarities and enjoy it while he could.
And, hey, the promise of anything fried was guaranteed to get his mouth watering, too!
Eat!
Re: Eat!
And best thing about all of it?
No peaches! None that he'd noticed, anyway!

"Food is always a welcome diversion."
Well, it was until he was done. And then he needed a diversion from his diversion.
It was a proooobleeem.
"And this stuff is, like, really good, too! Hard to not like fried food, right? But it's all, you know, fancy."
He thought even Ignis might even approve! He picked up another small piece expertly with his chopsticks and took another bite, one followed by a happy little contented sigh.
This class would definitely help keep him sane this semester...even if last week didn't really seem all that bad.
....in hindsight, anyway.
