Another week, another day in the Arena, this time set up with a multitude of various structures and obstacles of a boxy and moddable nature spread throughout, with two tall turrets at one end with a large mounted gun on each of them.

"Today's event," Rosa explained, "is Assault, the game of Hit or Be Hit. On top of each of the turrets, you'll see a target. Your goal is to hit those targets; there are various ~~moddable~~ projectile weapons," things like crossbows, rocket launchers, hand grenades, a glitter stick that just shot glitter and that was it, "scattered throughout the course for you to find, but while you're trying to get to them, two of your fellow Gladiators -- that'll be me and Crap Horse for winning the last two -- will be shooting tennis balls out of air cannons at you. Also, this was originally a one-on-one game, but that's not as much," chaos, "fun. We're doing a free-for-all, so you could very well experience a ground assault from your fellow players as well.

"Whoever gets the most targets by the end of class wins. Simple, right? Crap Horse, man your station. Everyone else, find a spot on the opposite side and wait for my mark to begin."

Or complain. But by now, Rosa wasn't expecting any of that from this bunch, even if everyone had likely been doing plenty of shooting and fighting already this week. Who would get tired of that, anyway? And this was against your friends, too, so that was totally different.

"... I need to make a ball turret."

So, there was Vette's big future project for the scrapyard, right there. That was amazing.

"You totally do!"

People could shoot at folks using the zip line!

"Adding it to the to-do list, then!"

It would be so great. So. Great.

(It might be a disaster. Vette would be okay with that, too.)

It's like free-for-all paintball but with slightly harder missles and power-loaded snipers!

And also don't forget, you're trying to hit the targets, not just each other.

Please make this as messy as you'd like, you're all in it together, and it's literally all you're doing this whole class period. 60 seconds? SCREW THAT.

But in the end, Chill takes the victory with the most target hits, followed by Nightmare, Nexu, Janet, Lilac, and Hurricane.

With all the fear and dread out there this week, Lana was having no problem channeling the Force. It was rather exhilarating, really.

Which may have meant she was spending a bit too much time dodging everything, because it was fun, and less time than she should actually hitting the targets.

Vette had been hoping to get one of the really, really good weapons.

What Vette found first was the glitter stick.

"THIS IS THE BEST EVER."

She didn't even care if she hit anybody with this thing. She was naming it Glitterface and it was her Glitterface and she was going to have a torrid love affair with it before the class period was through.

Glitter. Everywhere.

Mae, on the other hand, had found a crossbow.

"Eat bolt, Lilac!"

Mae had never fired a crossbow before.

Yeah, Vette watched that bolt fly wide, blinked, and then grinned and leveled the glitter stick right back.

"No thanks, not hungry!"

Pew pew pew!

"Aaaaaggghhh!" Mae cried, flailing happily in the glitter storm. "Why do crossbows take so long to reloooooooaaaaaad?!"

"Manual weapons with physical ammunition takes too much tiiiiime!"

More glitter, incoming!

Vette was so spoiled by being from a galaxy with blasters.

Mae dashed behind a convenient obstacle, still trying to reload.

Oh hey! A grenade!

"You make an interesting pooooooiiiiiint!"

Incoming!

... Oh, hey, was that a--

"FIRE IN THE HOLE!"

Vette was running like heck to avoid that explosion, trailing glitter every step of the way.

... And being pelted with a few tennis balls in the process.

"Ow, ow, hey! Quit it!"

Keyleth had had a run-in with a Little Sister and a Big Daddy last night that she'd gotten out of unscathed, but suffice to say that her good intentions in trying to help the little girl had gone very, very awry and she was still pretty shaken as a result.

So it wasn't any wonder that she was really out of it, and therefore a very easy target, this morning.

Mae's style of assault was to run around screaming and shooting mostly indiscriminately at things.

Today, this was weirdly successful.

Plus, running around screaming was really helping with all the weird, cooped up, claustrophobic energy she had built up, hiding in her room all week.

If it's to complain about being mercilessly assaulted with tennis balls from her cannon, she will just laugh at you, though.

Ooh, man, I am trying, but I just can't with today. ;_;
