Working Together: How Not to be an A-Hole - Monday - Third Period
In the Danger Shop, Jack looked at the items and pictures on the holo of her desk, a little bemused at them. It was kind of adorable. Norman had brought in an actual burger. He could have taken a picture of the sign at Luke's but.. no, that was an actual burger right there on her desk next to a dandelion. She picked the two-day-old cold burger up and took a bite. Huh. Kind of like McDonald's for mealyness but with more flavor. Still bland. Meh. Calories were calories. She crunched on through the stale bun unbothered.
"So I see you guys did great with the scavenger hunt," she said around a mouthful, "After you finish the confidence course, today's goal is Two Truths and a Lie. With a twist. You'll still choose a captain. Instead of playing this one on one, you're going to round robin the f.. game. Each will take a turn telling two truths and one lie about themselves. The group as a whole has to decide which is the lie and turn it in to the team captain. Captain will keep track. Once everyone's gone, you'll tell whether or not your lie was discovered."
She nodded at the whiteboard on one wall. Then she nodded at the confidence course. "Have at."

Choose a captain
cuz guuuuuuys you need to doooo this partRe: Choose a captain
It was tradition.
Tradition that was going to distract him from how this place and everything about it made him want to scream forever.
Re: Choose a captain
He wasn't sure.
Re: Choose a captain
Former captain?
Guy?
Confidence course!
The confidence course has been set up as usual. It's there. Waiting.
Re: Confidence course!
But he did it and he was pretty sure it would work, and after telling everyone last week that he was going to take care of the course this week, it would suck big time if he let them all down.
So he wasn't exactly there right as class began; he was using the time where Jack introduced the assignment for the day to sneakily slip toward the controls, wielding a small drive in his pocket. Plug the little guy in, take a moment to let it sync with his phone (c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon! He knew he should have worked on a faster compression rate, ugh!)...okay, got it! He was in! Just a few little tweaks here and theeeeere....yes, yes, yes! It was connecting exactly as he hoped it would, perfect! Okay! Showtime!
"Hey, guys!" Prompto slipped away from his sneaking and bounced back into the room, grinning wide. "Sorry I'm a little late; I had a...thing," if words could wink, that word was definitely winking, "to take care of. You guys ready?"
Re: Confidence course!
Re: Confidence course!
And he pressed the image of a big red button that was displayed on his phone, which caused the lights in the Danger Shop to dim significantly, replaced with flashing red warning lights and a warning alarm (not too loud, nobody wanted that) while the whole course began to oh-so-artfully start glitching out into pixels and shapes. The glitching pixels got faster and faster until they finally just exploded into shining fireworks of blue, yellow, and pink...
...and when that settled, the confidence course was replaced with a long stretch of a grassy green field with lots of wildflowers scattered around (and a few more glitches here and there and missing pixels; Prompto was good, but he was't that good, this was a complete homebrew here, c'mon!)...and a handful of big colorful chocobos, one for each of the students, in completely moddable (and sometimes changing!) colors.
And Prompto's own jaw dropped. "YES!" he laughed, pumping a fist in the air and bouncing...dancing, really...where he stood, and he laughed again, bouncing over to a chocobo in classic yellow. "It worked! It actually worked! C'mon, guys! Chocobo rides!"
Re: Confidence course!
Jack arched an eyebrow and watched the display, but her only comment was a very dry, "Extra credit points for style."
Re: Confidence course!
Just because it wasn't real didn't mean it wasn't huge and a little terrifying, okay?
Re: Confidence course!
Re: Confidence course!
Re: Confidence course!
And Prompto was going to be a puddle on the floor for a moment. Even if he'd programmed it, he so wasn't even ready for that.
"They really do. Not so much in the city, where I'm from, but outside they do...it's kind of wild, I never actually even saw one first hand until coming here, which makes, like, no sense, but, whatever, man! I'll take it!"
Re: Confidence course!
He'd never ridden a horse, either.
Re: Confidence course!
Re: Confidence course!
Or he just wanted an excuse to have chocobos. Take your pick.
Re: Confidence course!
"Orobirds back home are mounts, too," Lana said, "though I've only ridden one once." She went up to one of the chocobos and held up a hand carefully. When it seemed well-behaved, she ran a hand down its flank.
Two Truths and a Lie
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
Anything to throw his attention into that wasn't the raving insane ghosts outside.
"Okay..." He hummed a little. "I'm obsessed with movies about ghosts, I'm related to the crazy old hermit who used to live on the outskirts of my hometown, and my big sister was the homecoming queen in her senior year."
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
His smile was apologetic, almost as if he felt like he was betraying a fellow nerd for calling him out like that.
"And I just mostly want the second one, at least, to be true," he added with a chuckle.
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
"My parents own a huttball team, I was one of only two survivors of my previous class, and I can generally tell when people are lying, so it's kind of pointless for me to play this game."
What?
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
He paused a moment.
"How big was it to start?"
Did they get questions to clarify? He grimaced apologetically.
"I'm going to lean into that one as the lie," he said, before anybody got the idea that he actually expected an answer.
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
As messed up as the fact that he had a weird suspicion that it actually might not be the lie...
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
And if anyone thought Prompto would be doing anything else in this class without totally snuggling into his chocobo, then they were so wrong.
He half wanted to nominate a Chocobo for team captain, really.
"Alright, okay. Two truths and a lie." But he reminded himself to not be so dumb as to put them in that order. "Let's see...uhhhh....okay, okay, I'm an onl--"
Only he stopped there, blinked, and realized that what he was about to say might not actually technically be true anymore and his brow furrowed for a second as his brain sort of recalculated.
"So, no. Okay. How about this? Chocobos are my >favorite animals, like, ever, ummmm....I've never played sports in school, aaaaand....." Hmm, what would be a good third one? Hmmmmm. Man. "Err, I'm, uh....adopted?"
Kind of a lame finish, but it worked, and, again, he wasn't exactly good at this sort of thing.
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
He considered Prompto thoughtfully.
"I mean, he seems pretty sporty to me?"
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
"Uhh, I am the last surviving member of my family, I kind of died for a little bit before coming to school here, and... I really like spicy food."
He was not good at this. Though maybe his truths would seem so outlandish as to work here.
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
A world where you couldn't enjoy spicy food, your family was all dead, and you almost died, too??
Granted, Prompto wasn't even close to his parents, like, at all, but still! STILL!!
Re: Two Truths and a Lie
He was really bad at this.
"Sorry."
