The Mid-Century Cookbook; Tuesday, First Period [06/04].
"Good morning, everyone!" Summer greeted the class in her usual brightly maniacle way, for another great class of horrible food crimes. "I don't know how you're all feeling, but it's nice to have some good, decent, normal food on the island again, isn't it? I mean, we're still going to be pretty much making things out of the worst things ever, but it's nice having options, isn't it?
"Anyway, I was talking with my cat yesterday," and she was delighted with how literal that was, yes, especially since Pancakes did not at all seem to have any qualms about being spayed, unlike her last pet that had gain verbal communication skills, "about what we could do in class today, and she made it very clear that I should, under no circumstances, bastardize and ruin tuna for her."
Pause.
"So of course we're going to bastardize and ruin tuna for her. It's as good a time as any to pull out the old Pirate's Pie, so named, I think, because it'll make anyone it's served to voluntarily walk the plank. Let's get started!"

Listen to the Lecture - MCC, 05/28.
Just beautiful, bright, waxy, shiny slices of American cheese instead!
"Okay, so, we're going to start by giving our eggs a crack into a mixing bowl. Normally, I would say be careful not to get any eggshells in, but, in this case, I think it might actually really add something to it, give it that nice variety in texture, y'know? Beat those a little before added in some separated chunks of tuna from the cans; really get in there and pull it into pieces with your hands, it just really makes the experience feel all that more personal, right? Mix it up a little more, add these lovely canned mushrooms, a good sprinkle of dried parsley, and you know what? I'm just going to add some olives, too, because why not? Olives in these things seem to be as ubiquitous as gelatin. Give it another good mix before pouring it into your greased pie pan. There we go. Already looking delicious, right? Bet you can't wait to sink your fork in. But wait! There's more!
"Now that the base is in the pan, we can go ahead and top it neatly with a row of slice tomatoes and then place the slices of cheese over the tomatoes, like blankets. You're tucking those nice tomatoes in on their way delicious dreams. If you want to get really impressive with it, cut the edges of some of the cheese so it fits the pan perfectly, that'll look really nice.
"While that's sort of just sitting there and getting pleasantly lukewarm, we're going to whip up a batch of these instant potatoes with about a half a cup less water than usual, and that's really easy, it's pretty much just add water and stir. And then we're going to go ahead and spoon those potatoes on top of the cheese, spread it around real nice, there you go! Now, we still have some more cheese, so of course, if we have more cheese, we're going to use it, and this is where you can really get creative with it, because I'd like you to decorate the top of your pirate's pie with the cheese however you'd like. Me, I like to go for a nice lattice-work effect, makes it feel really cozy and homey, you know? Or, heck, take a moment to scope out the pantry and add anything you'd like. This is your moment to really shine with this recipe!
"Finally, we're going to pop these bad boys in the oven and let them bake for about thirty minutes at 375. And while we're waiting for that, we'll go ahead and clean up our stations, and watch this very informative video about home economics.

Talk to Summer - MCC, 06/04.
She's totally thinking she clearly needs to work in more recipes that involve cooking to infuse more terrible informational videos from the '50s into class while waiting for things to bake.
