Working Together - Monday, 3rd Period

The room was set up with the confidence course down the middle.

On one of the other walls was a projected list:

DANDELION
NERF
GRAVE DIRT
NATTO
JOYSTICK
TRAIN

"Welcome back. Your team captains so far have been Lana, Prompto, and Norman. You've walked past the confidence course, thrown it aside, and gone over it. Time for a new captain and a new way to do the course.

Today's exercise might take more than today. You have until next class to complete it because it will take you outside this room. It's a scavenger hunt with a twist. The rules:

If you know what the word is, you aren't allowed to be the person who retrieves the item. Nor are you allowed to lead others to the item or tell them where to find it or what it is. You are only allowed to answer yes or no questions about it and you may only answer with yes or no. Internet searches are not allowed.

The team captain is responsible for collecting all the items - and it can be the actual item or a photo representation of the item as long as you first went out and found the item first.

Happy hunting."

"Good to know," Lana said. She started heading back toward the school. "So, do they do anything interesting? Are they used for anything?" She smelled it, but it mostly just smelled green.

"Well..." Norman shrugged as they walked. "When they go to seed, the flowers turn into puffballs, and the seeds float away on the wind. And I guess people use the leaves in things like teas and salads, but they're generally a little bitter for most people's tastes."

"Hm. I think I'll pass on that, then," Lana said. "Though maybe I'll let Vette know.

"So what brought you from your tiny city to Fandom?"

"Um... My grandma said I should give it a try," Norman replied, shrugging and sticking his hands in his pockets as he headed back toward the school. "To make friends or something, I guess."

It had sort of worked?

"I can't believe I'm saying this," Lana started, "because honestly, given half a chance, I would live in the library, but - have you considered getting out a bit more?"

"... Nope, I'm fine."

Norman.

Norman, this was literally a class about teamwork, you antisocial little turd.

Norman, you were getting such a look for that. "Making friends is generally easier when you actually talk to people, you know." Lana smacked him on the shoulder with her dandelion.

"We're talking right now, aren't we?"

This was practically a marathon sprint of a conversation with a real live human person, for him.

"Because we had to for class," Lana pointed out. "You should come to Wayne's breakfasts on Monday. Or go to the park sometime. Or the coffee shop. We should have another outing to the mainland, too, the lot of us."

"I go to the coffee shop sometimes," Norman muttered. "Most of the time I end up telling off people who are being jerks to the baristas."

Which really didn't make him much more fond of the living no.

unusual_sith: (yeah no)

"Are you at least friends with the baristas, then?" Lana asked.

"I mean... we're polite to one another," Norman hedged. "I don't really go to coffee shops to make friends with the employees."

"Then you're still not making friends, are you?" Lana pointed out.

She opened the door to the Danger Shop and waved the dandelion triumphantly.

"... Guess not," Norman sighed. And then just kind of shrugged and let himself hang out in the doorway.

Maybe, just this once, Grandma Babcock was wrong about something.

Maybe she hadn't counted on so much of Norman's stubbornness.

"I'll make you a deal," Lana said. "You come to some parties and outings with the rest of us, I'll go to the coffee shop and yell at anyone that's rude."

She set the dandelion down for Jack.

"That shouldn't be too hard. I was at the Spin the Bottle party not too long ago," Norman pointed out. "And there were times when I was the only person to even show up to Summer's parties, before she graduated."

... Which, in fairness, made them far more tolerable for a Norman.

"There you go, so it's not a problem at all." Lana smiled. "Come on, let's go to the coffee shop."
