"Today we're exploring card games," Anakin said, giving the dark, foreboding-looking basement classroom a slightly sour look, "which is something we can all play together as a group."

This was going to end in screaming.

Aeryn held up the deck of cards. "This is Uno," she said. "You will each get cards. One card will go from the deck into the center, and the first person has to play the same number or color. It's a game children can play."

And a game that turned adults into small, whiny children. Not literally, though, which needed to be mentioned around here. "It's basically a matching game," Anakin said, "with a few twists."

He held up the Wild Draw 4 card. "You don't know it yet, but this card can ruin your life."

That's right. Your ENTIRE life.

"There are actually a few that can ruin your life, to varying degrees," Aeryn added, looking at one in her hand. "This one, for instance."

"Well, I'm definitely not wanting to play now," Anakin said before giving everyone a very quick runthrough of how the game worked.

"Since we know how this goes, we'll start," Aeryn said, after dealing out cards to everyone. Then she picked the next card off the top of the deck, and laid a green three face up for the next person.

Always excited to learn a new game but perhaps slightly disappointed that it was a card game and card games hardly held up for long back home, Sidon looked over his hand thoughtfully as he considered his move against the green three the teacher had laid down.

By laying down a green nine. A pretty simple move to get the game moving for now, really, and to hopefully se ehow it played out on someone else's turn to get a better feel for it.

Lana looked from her hand to the pile and laid down a green zero. This seemed like a deceptively simple game, but she was still going to do her best.

Janet frowned at her cards. It felt like if she couldn't have a zero, she should at least have one green, right?

She drew a card. Off to a great start!

Anakin had a green reverse card, so that was kind of the same thing, right? Your turn again, Janet!

And of course, Janet hadn't gotten a green or a zero. So she had to pick again.

Aeryn ended up doing better than Anakin, so she was fiiine.
