Tao of a Silly Old Bear, Monday, Period Two

For a guy teaching a class about Tao, Kanan looked maybe more than a little harried this morning. Of course, he was soaked up past his knees and his copy of the book he was teaching from didn't seem to be faring any better.

"So, I went to bed Friday night, woke up to squirrels telling me I'm late for my Monday radio shift, and nearly had to swim to work today," he drawled. "Apologies if this isn't the most put-together of classes. I'd had a plan for this one, it had involved the park, but the park is currently underwater, so we're going to just sit here on the school lawn and... contemplate the water or..."

He looked out at the town, flooded as it was.

"... Or something."

Sigh.

"This week's lesson," he added, "is a simple one, at least. It's about the value of learning, of putting one's faith entirely in study, versus learning from life experience." He shrugged. "Basically, don't put all of your faith in what you've been taught. Having faith in what you've learned for yourself is important, too."

A pause.

"Here is where I'd have some activity about 'Twosday,' spelled with a two, or the letter A, but my book is too soggy to open for reference," sigh, "so let's..." He waved a hand vaguely toward the water. "Talk about this. Talk about how research from books might help a non-aquatic person to adapt to a largely amphibious lifestyle, versus lessons that you might have learned for yourself this morning since waking up to it." He paused, and then added, "And if anybody has any suggestions for taking my dog for a walk while the island's flooded like this, I'm all ears."

Kanan did his best.

He's been awake maybe twenty minutes and spent a few days not existing, and his lesson plan became a little waterlogged overnight, please forgive him the last-minute class.

Sabine wasn't a giant fan of water, and she didn't remember a ton from the weekend, so today was off to a frustrating start. And she was really relieved to see Kanan, for some reason.

And, actually, she kinda thought that was a good lesson this week. Fiiiine.

Delirium listened. She mostly listened while stomping through every puddle she could find with delight, but she listened. Barnabas mostly tried to stay out of range of the wet.

The droplets from the puddles went prismatic or became swirling droplets of color before splashing back to earth.

This weekend was rapidly fading from Lana's thoughts, but she remembered just enough to be happy to see Kanan.

And glad to have some quiet time looking down at the water; she could see how it would be meditative if it were normal.

"Why wouldn't you just be fishies?" Del wondered, "It's easy."

"Delirium, n..!" Barnabas tried to stop her. He wasn't fast enough.

Delirium exploded into a swarm of rainbow fishes that swam in the air as though it were water. Sometimes they dived down to skip across or through a puddle but for the most part they stayed in the air.

And they sang. No words, just a tiny little chorus of joyful noise.

Barnabas siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighed.

Kanan blinked.

And Kanan stared.

"... I can't do that."

He definitely could not do that.

Tip blinked just once at that. And held up her phone to get a photo of the fishes.

J.Lo was going to be so sad to have missed this.

"Is your warehouse dryish? Because if so I think your dog is going to have to run around in your warehouse a lot," Sabine said.

And that was Sabine realizing she really needed to check her own warehouse.

"I... haven't actually gotten that far, yet," Kanan confessed, after a pause. "My day's been about twenty minutes of confusion and surprise water so far."

"I think, like, I really need to find a proper swimsuit," Nina mused, since... well, yes. Her long skirts were not really suited for all the water. "And, like, it's kind of neat??????????? But also weird??????????????"

"It's definitely both of these things," Kanan agreed. "I might end up being something of a homebody this week."

... No. He'd go nuts if he tried.

"Take Stance for a swim instead," Tip suggested. "Still exercise, and he'll be better equipped to attack the ducks when things are back to normal."

She was so helpful!

"He'd definitely appreciate that," Kanan noted, "though we're trying to get him to stop attacking the ducks. They get their revenge eventually."

And then he inevitably wound up running around being chased by birds while carrying a wet dog.

"The lawn here is mostly dry," Lana pointed out. "Just bring him here."

"You're all going to have to contend with a very excitable dog tearing up the campus until this blows over, then," Kanan noted. "But at least it isn't so far from home that I'd have to worry for long about him bowling over a gondolier."

He's still processing his day thus far. He wasn't even here for the weekend and there's a lot.
