The Danger Shop this week had been programmed in two halves - on one side, there was a formal dining room with fine china and silver. On the other, a neat blanket was spread out over grass, with a well-crafted wicker basket in the middle. The dishes there were sturdier and the silverware plainer.

Hannibal stood at a table between the two halves in his best...lizard-skin suit. He was still a bit disgruntled about it, yes. It looked fine, he supposed, but leather did not drape the way cloth did.

He straightened up and nodded at the students. "This week, we're not talking about food; we're talking about how other things relate to food." He waved between the two halves of the classroom. "What sorts of food does each of these settings demand? What sorts of conversation and manners? What culture do you expect of each?"

He gestured at the table behind him, which held all the food. "Take some food, and sit where you like to eat it; move between the two, if you like. But think about this - when you choose your food and seat, is it only because of taste? Or is there a reason you prefer one over the other? What behavior do you feel is warranted in each place? What is most appropriate and most comfortable? Let us discuss it."

"So for you, the food is less important than the location," he noted. "What made you choose the foods you did. Are they different than you would have chosen if you were eating on the other side?"

Nell considered for a moment. "They looked good and smelled good. I don't think I'd care about the difference between where I ate. You can eat most anything anywhere, don't you think?"

"You can," Hannibal agreed. "So where you're eating wouldn't factor into your choices?"

"Well, if I was eating something really really messy, I'd rather have a table," Nell admitted. "But there's ways around that if you want. You-un can always turn a picnic basket over and eat off that or something."

Hannibal smiled. "Also very true. Personally, I prefer to make hand-held food when I'm cooking for a picnic; it makes the lack of table less of an issue. That also means that plating presentation is less important, as there are less often plates."

'If you're looking just for pretty on the plates, sure is gonna be hard at a picnic," she agreed. "And if people are just gonna walk around then hand food's good. Otherwise, eat what you want where you want."

Hannibal smiled and gave her a little bow. "So, food and place have less of a relation to you than they do to some. And now we've both learned that."

"Ever'thing here is still so new to me, that maybe I just don't know enough," Nell said quietly. "Never even dreamed there were so many different foods and, well, so many every things."

"I hope we'll help you to experience many more of them," Hannibal said.
