An Excuse for Field Trips, Wednesday, 4th Period
Today Hannibal was in a linen suit. Suitable for hot weather, but offering adequate coverage of skin to avoid too much pollen exposure on the way to Portalocity. He'd worn a surgical mask until he got indoors, too. While he didn't mind the effect when he and Jono were alone, class was not the time for it.
"Welcome. We'll be hurrying along today, so our introduction will wait until we're through the portal."
Jono, meanwhile, was wearing... his usual early spring attire. Tee shirt, jeans, leather jacket, scarf. Shut up. He knew he was going to basically die of heatstroke, but he had limited options without walking out there looking like some kind of bondage king. Which would be a terrible life choice this week.
He was, however, wielding a water bottle. With a spray nozzle. Which he usually used on the cats.
He was also waving people through the portal without further ado, because while he was immune to the effects of the pollen (you have to have lungs to be able to breathe that crap in, suckers), he wasn't letting any of the class linger longer than need be.
There were other ways to be affected by it, and Hannibal would be seeing to some of those later...after class. Class was now, and he was perfectly capable of restraining (cough) himself.
When they got through the portal, they would find themselves in a desert landscape, just outside an area with staked-out squares of sand that had been dug into methodically.
//Dinosaur dig in the Gobi Desert, today,// Jono declared, once everybody was through the portal. //A lot of fiddly, delicate work. If you find anything interesting, you even get to keep it.// A pause. //If you find anything too interesting, science gets to keep it, but at least you'll get credit for the discovery. Dinosaurs you might find parts of here are velociraptors, protoceratops, oviraptors, and tarbosaurus. You will drink water, you will wear a hat, and you will tap out and sit in the shade if the heat starts to get to you.//
"Meanwhile, we can all enjoy time in the sun, sand, and pollen-free environment," Hannibal said. And he could find things to do so that Jono didn't need to use the spray bottle on him. Unless he needed cooling down for other reasons.
"The leaders of the expedition speak some English. Follow their directions. If you need any other help, please see one of us."

There were also breaks for shade, though those were because sometimes Yang just liked to sit back, and not because the sun was affecting her at all. Heat generally wasn't much of a problem for her.
Sun! Sand! Lack of pollen! Find a dinosaur!

He had the spray bottle with him the entire time and was absolutely prepared to 'bad kitty' spritz anyone who needed it.
... For heatstroke reasons.
... Or lingering pollen reasons. He was an equal-opportunity bad-kitty-bottle-wielder.

If he started getting overheated, he could always think evil thoughts at Jono to get sprayed down.
