Adulting 101- Monday- 2nd period

Today the Danger Shop looked like a garage, complete with a few cars that the students would totally get to work on today.

"Last week you did some driving. This week you're going to learn what to do when you need to fix something before you can drive that car," Kitty explained. "Things happen. You leave your lights on, or it's freezing, and your battery dies. You drive over a nail and you get a flat tire. Now you could get something like AAA, which for certain issues will come out and help you get out of a bad spot, but it's good to know how to do certain things for yourself, at least until you can get them checked out by a professional. So I'm going to show you how to do them, and then you'll pick a car and try it out yourself."

Even though they very rarely had a car growing up, these were all things that Ingrid had already taught Astrid how to do at one point in their lives, when her mother was in a spot where she was particularly keen on emphasing that she should never be in a position where she was dependant on other people. It had been a while, so the refresher was good. She'd forgotten a lot of the little things that would have prevented her from being confident about it all if she needed to figure it out in a moment of crisis.

She made pretty methodical work out of checking the oil and refilling it, being careful not to make a mess.

Beaker was totally covered in it. He wasn't even a little surprised.

Astrid had done this before, too, a few times, actually, but she'd never not be maybe a little nervous when hooking up the cables and thinking she'd mess it up just enough to get totally electrocuted and shocked.

It never happened, because it was super easy to do it correctly, but there was still always that moment of doubt and anticipation...

...yup. And covered in oil, so the ensuing fireball was amazing, if quickly put out by the Danger Shop's safeties.

Even though she knew the hows, Astrid hadn't had a lot of practice with this one. She was usually left holding the hubcap with the screws to make sure they didn't get lost while her mother did it or while her mother went to have a smoke while whoever owned the car did it and talked her through it like she'd never seen it done before.

So she actually kind of liked getting to do it now. Mechanical stuff wasn't really her forte, but it was still working with her hands, which was always appreciated, and there was a certain art to it, if you twisted it up enough to make it seem so.

Either way, it was a clear objective with a clear set of goals and a pathway to do it, which was sort of the space that Astrid thrived in.

Beaker was only slightly smushed when the jack came down?
