Ballet for Beginners; First Period [03/08].
Everything seemed to be in order in the studio that morning for the ballet class. The stereo was working fine, putting out the heavy metal intrumentals that suited Rosa's mood that morning (and, let's be honest, nearly every morning). The TV playing their clip for the day seemed to be working fine. The floor hadn't, like...turned into lava or anything, so, overall, everything seemed like it would go smoothly that day for class without any problems.
Rosa didn't trust it for a second.
Luckily, her suspicions were unfounded and they really would have a simple, straightforward, problem-free class that day, unless the students themselves decided otherwise. But they were all kind of nerds, so that barely even registered as a concern.
"This week," she said, "we're actually going to get into some light choreography. I bet you're all thrilled. So you know the drill. Find a spot, let's warm up."

Warm Up - Ballet, 03/08.
"I picked this one," Rosa explained as they warmed up, "because it's clearly a more beginner's performance. A lot of the steps these dancers are performing are simple enough if you watch them, but it's in how it's put together as a group that makes it still, you know, a good performance or whatever. Simple, but well-executed, can still make a decent performance."
And then onto the barre work, too, of course!
Learn New Steps - Ballet, 03/08.
"These steps are pretty simple and pretty common in choreography," she explained, as she broke down how to do one and then the other. "And they're pretty similar, so it's just a matter of knowing one from the other. Balancé keeps the same foot in front, while pas de bourrée switches them." She displayed it for them again, and then her focus went to them. "Your turn. Practice it for a bit and then we'll try to put some of this crap together."
Choreography - Ballet, 03/8.
She then explained the steps as she performed it slowly for them: "Starting in third, balancé front, balancé back, tendu side into your first pas de bourrée. Tendu side, tendu other side, relevé, piroette. Stick that landing, and then repeat on the other side. Balancé front, balancé back..."
So on, so forth. She lead them through it a few times before turning and prompting them to try it on their own as she recited the steps, kind of hoping it wound up being a big old mess because that would be hilarious, but, again, they were all kind of nerds, so they might do a decent job at it. Who knew?
But, awww. Their first real dumb sequence.
