A New You, Tuesday, Period Two
"Might I, ah, suggest y'all find a babysitter for your rogue?"
Good morning, class, and welcome to the danger shop, where you were all set up on the outskirts of town, facing some mountains not too terribly far away.
"She didn't leave the most stellar of impressions on the Captain of the Guard last week. Though I suppose I'll have to commend her on carrying out a discussion with her from beginning to end without having an irate Dragonborn put an axe into her."
That conversation had gone so well. Honest.
"She did manage to at least get the barest details of the job. The town is willing to pool their resources to pay you lot five-hundred gold if you go and investigate why a dragon wyrmling who is normally happy to reside in the mountains has been wandering nearer to town these days. As the town is still reeling in the wake of the-" Barney, "-attack, there aren't many people left who are able to find out. Certainly none who are able to fight the way you are if things go south all lickety-split. Today, you've been given your chance to find out what's up, as there have been reports of a dragonlike shape moving out of the mountains to the north of town. Now, wyrmlings aren't exactly large or venerable, so far as dragons go. They're still rather young. But they're large enough to spot when they're on the move. Large enough to look even the largest of you in the eye."
He nodded back over his shoulder toward the mountains.
"Go looking, and I'm certain you'll find it."
The rest, he was leaving up to you.

found the availabilitymanaged to come out of his icy shell a little and project a little more of himself into the goings-on of this group that he was pretty much just following along with like a little brooding hanger-on?Mmmm, probably not. Maybe? He probably should. Buuuut...if they were just going to fiiiight (he assumed; you didn't go looking for dragon-like things without expecting to wind up fighting dragon-like things, right?), he'd just stick to that, it'd been working okay for him so far, right? Right. Guess he'd just find out!
Wyrmling Hunt!
THERE!
And that snarling is met with a familiar chirping, yipping reply, as a handful of kobolds answer in kind.
How are you going to approach this, folks?
Re: THERE!
Re: THERE!
There was still a fair bit of distance between them, but the words filtering through to them in draconic (and handwavily understandable by those who spoke the language), would be discernible in fits and starts.
The kobolds yipped about their young, about how few survivors there were of the gnoll attack after the passages had been sealed off.
The wyrmling snarled as he prowled between boulders.
"And who sealed those passages?"
Re: THERE!
"Hello there," she said in Draconic. "How are you today?"
Re: THERE!
There was a large golden-scaled head craning up to look at the Yuan-ti that approached, intelligent eyes regarding her with cool curiosity.
... And almost immediately, there were also two Kobolds, yipping and screeching bloody murder.
Jatila, you were the one who suggested the tunnels be closed off with the Kobolds and their young inside.
Why had nobody hired a babysitter for the rogue, yet?
Re: THERE!
. . . understandably.
Yelden -- still not happy about the tunnel sealing or the choices everyone had made but it was hard to be persuasive when your player had a measly 10 charisma and was the most awkward half-elf alive -- sighed and trudged over, just because she had a bad feeling about this.
Also because she guessed that as the party fighter, she was supposed to take point on this sort of thing?
"Please stop talking," she said with a sigh, reaching out to clap a big firbolg hand onto Jatila's shoulder, "or I am literally going to have to sit on you, and I don't think you want me to do that."
She held her other hand up to the Kobolds, wiggling her fingers to show that she was unarmed.
"Listen, I'm really sorry about all of this, it wasn't my idea, but if there's anything I can do to make it up to you, I'd, um, love to hear it? If you --" Oh. Right. "I don't know if I can actually speak with you."
This was going to go fantastically.
Re: THERE!
The wyrmling tilted his head to peer at the firbolg, breathing out a puff of smoke while one of the kobolds yipped and chittered to translate for him. The other scrambled right up onto the wyrmling's shoulders and started pointing and barking at them in broken Common.
"Liar! Can't make it up! Gnolls come, we run! You know how far we run? Murder cow guess how far we run!"
Spoiler: It had not been far.
Re: THERE!
"A quick sprint, maybe?"
Probably not helping much there, but being called a murder cow had been unexpected and unsettling, okay?
Re: THERE!
The other kobold kept translating. The wyrmling snorted another soft puff of smoke, this time accompanied by a lick of flame.
"You wants make it better? Make it better."
... You probably couldn't undo that one, Yelden.
Re: THERE!
Re: THERE!
As much as Keyleth wanted to facepalm, she managed to remind herself that Yelden was less likely to do so and reined in the impulse, if just barely. She couldn't help a quick glare in Jatila's direction, though.
"We can't go back and change things, I'm sorry. It was our mistake --" and that was another pointed look at Jatila -- "and there's no undoing it, but maybe you can tell me what we can do to try and help you out of this situation that we caused?"
Loaded question there, Yelden. You might end up regretting that one, too.
Re: THERE!
The kobold narrowed its beady little eyes up at her, and then took a moment to confer with its cohort. And, you know. The wyrmling.
After a few moments, the three of them turned eyes toward Yelden, and the kobold spoke again.
"We needs new home, new safe home. There is caves, but caves are taken."
Re: THERE!
She glanced at the wyrmling.
"Something that might have something to do with why you've been wandering so close to town, maybe?"
It was a guess, really, but hey, she'd rolled a 16 on an insight check.
Re: THERE!
The wyrmling was quiet for a moment as the kobold translated for him. And then he simply gave another snort, a puff of smoke and a small wisp of flame, and grudgingly turned to display one wing, the shredded membrane hanging in tatters as he stretched it. He rumbled something that the Draconic speakers would understand to be, "A demon."
The kobold helpfully translated for those who didn't. More or less.
"Big shadow," he barked. "Come from dark and attack, these caves more danger than old home tunnels. No good. No good.."
