"Well, congratulations," Fjord drawled as his class stepped into the Danger Shop today. "You've cleared your name in the town, but you? Are in the shit with the Kobolds."

He smirked just the tiniest bit.

"In spite of your fighter's best efforts at negotiating peace at the end of a lit torch."

Sorry, Keyleth.

"At least you've learned a few things since your encounter in the field. The Kobolds would have been digging there whether there was a farmer's field or not, and you suspect it isn't that they were looking for something so much as they were perhaps building something. You've made a sort of progress, there, so level up, if you're keeping track! and so, a little bit wiser and more experienced than before, you set off toward the sewers, to see if there's anything in the underground that will give you further clues to the Kobolds' purpose."

A pause.

"And, ah, to hopefully get them to stop swarming on you whenever you set foot outside of town."

He clapped his hands and grinned.

"So, into the sewers. Let's solve a mystery."

Keyleth Yelden sighed. “I guess I’ll just take point on this one, unless someone sneakier who can see in the dark wants to scout ahead? Anybody squishy can stay behind me, though. And . . . someone else do the talking this time. Please.”

No. Please. Don't anyone let him do that.

He did give a faint grunt, though, remembering the brooding part of this character. "That is," he added, "if we even have a chance for it this time."

"Yeah, sorry about that," Yelden said with a sheepish expression that looked thoroughly mournful on a firbolg face. "But good news! I'm really good at hitting things!"

The disbelieving stare she got was more Keyleth than Yelden.

"The satisfaction of helping people who need it, obviously."

Keyleth, no. You might have a good alignment, but you'd picked a neutral one for your character.

"I don't know these people," Jatila answered. Sorry, Keyleth. This attitude was far too easy for Lana to put on - she just acted like some of the more self-obsessed Sith she knew. "If I help them, will they help me?"

Which then stops and begins again somewhere behind you.

So, people were planning things and being reasonable about this. Trevor, or Chevy, was just going to barrel on into that sewer to start the encounter. A real Leroy Jenkins, that paladin.

Plus side, he had dark vision to see the way. Down side... giant fucking spider.

"God shits in my dinner," he sighed very quietly, reaching for his whip.

"Ew," Keyleth Yelden said, sighing as she unhooked her morningstar from her belt. "Why didn't I pick something with spells instead? I don't actually know how to do this!"

Yeah, Trevor was just going to be smug over picking a weapon he was well used to. So, nyah.

"You hit the monster in the face with the heavy end," he suggested, frowning as he wasn't able to just attack because of some bullshit called initiative. "And hopefully it dies from that."

Unlikely, but there they were.

Into the Sewers - Under the Farmer's Field

Assuming the spider doesn't kill you, and all...

There are a dozen Kobolds hard at work in a dimly lit room, one with some holes clearly ground out of the ceiling, with large metal rods that the industrious little guys are readying themselves to poke up through. The rods seem to be forming the support for something, though it's difficult to make out exactly what that something is without getting a closer look.

Of course, the Kobolds aren't thrilled to see you, Yelden, and are snarling something at you that your friends who can speak Draconic might assure you is extremely rude.
