A New You, Tuesday, Period Two

Today, students, you would enter the danger shop to find yourself and your merry band of fellows sitting on the outskirts of that same seaside community, near a particularly large but depressingly sparse-looking farmer's field.

"Congratulations," Fjord said jovially once it looked as though everybody had arrived. "Warden cut you a deal... you all get to clear your name together, innocent or otherwise, if you do the town this one particular favor. You see, apparently, there have been some kobolds stirring up hell on the outskirts of town. They tend to show up around the same time every night, digging up farms, ruining crops. Now... we can't have that. Yes, this town does also have a fairly active fishing industry and the hunting on the outskirts isn't half bad. The locals aren't necessarily going to go hungry, but winters are long this far north, and people need the grains and other such things in their diet, and a good deal of the town's economy comes from trading their harvest."

He didn't figure most of the class necessarily cared. He was still going to share what the Warden had said. Important backstory, and all.

"So, to clear your names, you'll need to find out what the kobolds want and deal with it, or just kill the little fuckers and get it over with. Up to you. Warden doesn't care how the job gets done, just so long as this gets put to a stop." He lifted his chin and smiled pleasantly at his little adventuring party. "So... what do you do?"

He needed people with that charisma around him to keep him safe from angry mobs.

"Depends on the limb."

Well, he was gonna be an awful influence on her, wasn't he?

It was fine, it would just be practice for hanging around with Vax and Percy later.

“I guess that’s maybe true, depending on the circumstance.” She — not her character — could turn into a tiger, after all, and some mayhem was going to be inevitable if it came to a fight. Actually, that was true for her character, too, wasn’t it?

His character had some divine wrath stuff going on while he... well, magic was best left up to other people.

"I'll try to wound rather than maim," he offered. Which was apparently different??

Keyleth, meanwhile, was going to have to remind herself that her character couldn’t rely on spells at all, if it came to a fight. Which was fantastic, because she had a personal aversion to weapons.

“That would be nice of you,” she said cheerfully. “Regrowing limbs is a lot more complicated than just healing wounds.”

A long rest could fix a ridiculous amount of injury, but not that much.

"...you can do that?" You know, maybe if the teacher gave them Mountain Dew and a bowl of Doritos they'd stop breaking character so much.

Or it could have the opposite effect. Only one way to find out! In any case, this out-of-character aside was going to continue for at least a little while longer.

“Oh, I mean, I can’t. I’m not that good with healing magic yet. I just know it’s possible, but it’s not exactly a sure thing either, even with a skilled healer, you know?”

Trevor considered that, humming thoughtfully. "Better than most doctors back home."

Because they had this weird thing about burning them! Man, the Church really sucked.

Oh, well, Keyleth would definitely agree with him on that point.

"Really, that's not a thing in your world? Wow. I hadn't thought of that."

This is supposed to be a class on roleplaying, kids.
crack_that_whip: (oh is that what you think?)

"The Church," he said, twirling his finger in the air like he was emphasizing that capitalized C while still talking shit about it. "Doesn't like anything that challenges it's authority. And nothing challenges it more than people who think beyond 'maybe if I pray hard enough, I won't be dying from a gangrenous limb.'"

Keyleth grimaced, an expression that looked a little bit odd on her current firbolg face but was pretty unmistakable nonetheless.

"Why does that not surprise me?" she sighed. "I know clerics can be really good at healing, but the institution . . ."

"Shits on the world as a whole," he finished for her. Because that's what she meant to say, right? That exact thing, right?

". . . not the words I was going to use, but yes." She might use those words now, though, so thanks for the influence, Trevor.
