Make It Fashion- Tuesday- 1st period

The students would be in their classroom today, where everyone got their own station and sewing machine. Their fabrics from last week were arranged by the rest of their stuff.

"Now you get to do fun stuff!" Brooke greeted them. "Today we're going to actually sew some stuff. Pick one of your cheaper fabrics, something you can practice on, and you can try out the machines for a while. And then you're going to try something simple to start: a tote bag. They're really handy, you're saving the environment, you might as well be fashionable about it. And if you're ambitious, maybe you can try to spice it up a little. So let's turn on our machines and make sure they work!"

Mae had taken a very intro home ec class in middle school, so she wasn't totally unaware of how to use a sewing machine.

This didn't mean that any of her seams were at all straight, but she knew how to thread the thing and stitch two pieces of cloth together.

Yeah. Prompto had never sewed anything in his life before, much less with a sewing machine, but at least he was good with the machine part of this equation. After a little trial and error (and perhaps a lot of peeking over to toward his classmates to see how they were managing), he thought he'd finally figured it out.

Wait, no, that wasn't right...

...oh, wait! There we go! Now he had i--

For now. But the chance to practice was good, and Prompto was slowly getting the hang of it, building enough confidence toward when he'd be ready to take a stab at the actual project.

Mae's bag was made with black denim. It was a very standard tote shape, square-shaped with a minimal gusset and serviceable straps.

She was using chalk now to try to plan what design she was going to put on it. She was thinking in white out. Because she knew where to find white out, and it seemed like a reasonably punk thing to use.

Once Prompto did figure out the machine, the thing was pretty much a breeze, and his only enemies were his own ambition and his lack of patience. So while he went ahead and tried to spruce up an otherwise boring tote bag made of some of the red tartan flannel he'd picked up by making the straps out of the black faux leather and giving it a trim around the top with that material as well, his stitching was...getting the job done but a little all over the place.

His next task was clearly going to need to be how to stitch in a straight line. Or, at the very least, take his damn time because it wasn't like it was that hard if he just focused. But he liked the bag, wonky stitches and all, even if he had no idea what he'd use it for. Maybe carrying snacks for Girl when they went out.

Ooh, or snacks for himself! Snack bag!
