Class today had pillows and blankets like a perfectly reasonable thing for teaching.

Perfectly. Reasonable.

"I feel like I'm in the future," Magnus said from a blanket burrito. "Am I living in the future?"

"...no." Cara wasn't under any blankets, but she did look like she wished she hadn't gotten out of bed.

Blanket burrito was the best way to be. "Oh. But we still get to nap, right?"

"Yes, there will be naps." Way to make it sound like the kids had a choice about it, Cara.

"Today is about... Self care?" He made that into a question somehow.

"You can't care for the team until you care for yourself." That's what Cara was going with.Mostly she was just tired.

"Exactly!" They were such good teachers.

Truly they were.

"...what if," said Prompto, after a moment of looking around and taking account of all the pillows and blankets, "instead of just naps...we...used this stuff to build some forts?"

He put on his best eh, eh expression of great convincing, grinning crookedly, and pretty much already resolved to make forts anyway, no matter what anyone else said.

And then maybe go for the nap.

"I like this plan!" Magnus said from his burrito of comfort and warmth.

"Alright!" said Prompto, already halfway to putting up the first wall regardless. "Fort time!"

Look, you can't give a guy pillows and blankets and expect the desire for a sweet pillow fort to override the fact that, in general, this was the class where he tried to be cool above all else. The power of the pillow fort was just too, too strong.

"I'm down with this," Yang seconded. Yeah, she was generally always willing to take a nap, but forts? Forts took priority.

"--Now I wish my dog was here. Zwei is aces at pillow forts."

Forgive Prompto for a moment. There was a lot of his favorite things going on all at once over here.

"You have a dog?" he asked, eyes shining, wondering if he already knew that but feeling pretty confident that he'd have remembered if he had. "That can also build pillow forts?"

Even if that meant that all the dog did was mostly test for integrity, that was an amazing thing to think about. And if there was more? Even. BETTER.

"Zwei is utterly ridiculous, and probably smarter than most humans," Yang laughed. "He knows what the words 'pillow fort' mean as opposed to 'pillow fight,' and he loves both."

"Like, we're at the point we all just act like he's a person and talk to him like he's human or fanus, so, he's a tiny furry person who's the bestest boy ever."

"I have to meet this dog," Prompto declared, with firm conviction, which was the only thing probably holding him back from squeeing instead.

Literally the best thing to ever happen to him happened thanks to an incredibly smart pup, and he would be in love with them forever, until the day he died, because of it.

Not that it was hard to love doggos, though. You have be a monster not to!

"I totally would have brought him with, if I didn't feel like I needed him to keep an eye on dad and Ruby while I'm gone," Yang confessed, reaching into her pocket to pull out her Scroll and pull up a folder before passing it to Prompto. "Meet Zwei the Wonder Dog!"

There were plenty of pictures and videos, all including a corgi. Some of them had Yang in them, and/or a younger girl with black and red hair, a blond man who was clearly related to Yang, and a black-haired man with red eyes.

And Prompto, to his credit, somehow managed to not bounce too much over the promise of adorable dog pictures as Yang handed the device over. And, though his expectations were pretty high, they could still not prepare him for that face.

"Ohmygaaaaawwwd." All control went right out the window, as he couldn't help scrolling through for more and looked about ready to melt on the spot. And he laughed a little, still not blinded to the point of not realizing how ridiculous he was and that he was blushing a little, but, then again.....doggo! "He's soooo cute! Those tiny legs! That little face!

"No!" Dramatically, Prompto shoved the device back Yang's way. "I can't! My heart," his hand slapped onto his chest, "can't take it. It's torture, seeing a dog like that and not being able to smush his face."

"Isn't he the best?!?" Yang enthused. "--But don't let the tiny legs fool you...he's fast."

Also, enjoyed being thrown like a cannonball while on fire, but that was pretty normal for the Rose-Xiao Long household.

"I know I wouldn't want to get in his way," Prompto said, although that wasn't true at all, he would very much like to get in the way of that little speeding furball if it meant he was on a straight course for pounces and snuggles. "What that some of your family and friends in the pictures, too? Your dad?" That one seemed pretty obvious. "And...Ruby?"

She had mentioned that name just a moment ago, right? Prompto was pretty sure, but Prompto had also been distracted by doggo.

"Yup, that's my darling dork of a sister," Yang laughed, flipping to a picture of all of them and tapping the younger girl. "That's my dad, Tai, and the dark and scruffy one trying to sneak a sip from his flask is my Uncle Qrow."

"Awww," Prompto chuckled a little, rubbing the back of his neck. "That's great!"

...man, he didn't even think he had any pictures of his parents, and he had about fifteen pictures of a post he saw once that looked kind of cool. Not that he'd complain, of course; he knew that, even though they weren't close, his parents saved him from a life as a Nif, so there was always that.

"Do you miss 'em?"

"Well, yeah. I pretty much raised Ruby since dad and Qrow were busy teaching at the academy or off being Huntsmen. Kinda weird to not have her stealing all the cookies or whatever from me, but nice, too. She's gotta learn how to stand on her own eventually. I do miss Zwei taking up half my bed!"

Nooooooooooooooooot going there with Tai or Qrow. Or Summer ~~or Raven~~.

Prompto, no. Suggesting to step up to fill in the stolen cookies gap was one thing, but offering to shoulder the burden of taking up half her bed was not appropriate.

Could he really be blamed for thinking it, though?

Like he'd ever have the guts, anyway.

But man, if he did...

"I think anyone would miss that," he said, instead, with a chuckle and far too much of a blush for an innocent statement like that.

Wait, was he blushing?

Yang immediately reviewed the last few seconds...did he? No. No way. People generally liked the idea of her, or her as an object -- and Prompto was way too sweet do that -- but there was no way he was actually interested-interested in her. Right?

She gave a slightly crooked grin, tucking her hair behind her ear self-consciously. "Yeah, well, what's not to miss about dog breath in the mornings, right?" she joked. "Thankfully I did get to bring my bike... pretty much one of the only things I don't think I could stand to leave behind. I've put too much work into her."

How, Yang? How? How did you keep managing to say things that made you even more awesome than Prompto already thought you were? And it helped, too, that this time it worked as a nice shiny distraction toward something else.

"Bike?" he asked, brows lifting in intrigue. "As in, a motorcycle bike?"

"Nope, tricycle," she teased cheerfully, pulling up another video and handing the Scroll back to Prompto. "Meet Bumblebee! My precious girl... who is not exactly street-legal if you know what I'm saying."

Enhancements.

And Prompto managed to not bounce too much on his toes as he went to have another look at the device. Cute dogs, beautiful machinery, and a gorgeous girl showing them to him? Um, kind of hard to beat that as far as awesome things all together went.

"Oooooh."

And, clearly, he liked what he saw, laughing faintly as he asked, "Sooooo....probably a slim chance of a getting a joyride out of her to see if she runs as good as she looks, huh?"

"Well, you don't get to drive her until I know you're going to treat her like a lady, but there's room for two if you're willing to hold on and get cozy," Yang replied. "--and I seriously mean hold on."

Because Yang drove like, well, a girl who'd passed Skywalker's flying class by zooming around Endor at high speeds with Peebee riding/shooting shotgun.

"Oh," said Prompto, who wouldn't have been able to wipe that grin off his face even if he tried, "I can hold on."

Good luck ever getting him to let go, Yang...

"Well, then, got any plans after class, cowboy?" she asked, putting her hand on her hip. "Assuming we, like, don't fall asleep in this epic fort, because I don't think our illustrious teachers would remember to wake us up."

And somehow, the grin managed to find a way to be even more persistent, though he really did try to rein it in this time, shaking his head and wondering just how many of the ridiculous butterflies in his stomach was showing in his expression.

"Nope, I got nothing," he said, throwing in a shrug to do everything he possibly could to seem oh-so-casual and not at all just ready to kick down the fort, abandon the class entirely, and get going right then. "Open as open can be."

And even if he did have something else going on, he probably would have said the same thing.

"Then it's a date," Yang said breezily, picking up some pillows. "After we've demonstrated our mastery of forts."

~~ngl I started snickering at 'get going right then' because my brain lives in the gutter.~~

Who totally missed their coffee this morning.

It's 11 am, but my tablet says 4 am.
