Fur, Feathers, and Scales: The Biology of Domestication, Thursday, Period 2
Zack was absolutely looking just as cheerful as ever as he stood in front of the class today, a box in his arms and a grin on his face.
It was always the perfect cover for crushing disappointment. He still hadn't gotten over the runaround that Portalocity had given him when he'd just tried to book a portal earlier in the week, and he still hadn't managed to make his way there to discuss that problem in person.
And so, today?
"Bunnies!"
Bunnies.
"So, these little guys were domesticated by the Romans for food and fur, but they've been kept as pets since the nineteenth century!" Whichever that one was. "They're smart, too. They can be trained to use the litterbox and to come when called, so they might be a good alternative for people who don't want, say, a carnivorous pet."
And Zack had so many other words for folks who thought it was okay to put their dogs on vegan diets, but he'd save that for another time.
"Like with cats and dogs, it's a good idea to spay or neuter your pet rabbit; it decreases aggression and territorial behavior, and it prevents certain health problems, especially in the females." Not to mention the whole, 'not ending up with a billion rabbits' thing. "They will chew on pretty much anything, so if you get a rabbit, you'll want to rabbit-proof your space."
A pause, and then he added, "And they're really, really cute. Just try not giving them out as gifts around that Easter holiday. Shelters end up full of these guys in the weeks after because of unexpected pets that people weren't equipped for in one way or another. These guys and chickens both."
Hence the chicken coop on the shelter roof.
"So, now that the lecture is out of the way..." He set the box down in the playpen in the middle of the room and started transferring bunnies from the box to the floor. "Let's play with some rabbits!"

Re: Talk to the TA!
Look being the imperative word, as he made it very clear that the bunnies were not for babies to touch until they were older, and if she started making a fuss or crying about it, he had Princess Shark on reserve to distract her and give her something to cling onto if she really insisted on getting those not-as-gentle-as-her-toes fingers on something.
