"Um, not much, I guess." Not that he'd need to worry about anyway. "Just classes and stuff. You?"

"About the same. I was talkin' to Pippi and Pip last night about having a pool party, maybe." He munched thoughtfully on a bite of salmon. "Just so everybody gets a chance to kick back a bit, y'know?"

"That's right, Pippi mentioned that this morning. I think it's a great idea. As long as there's no giant squid."

Anders considered this. "I'm pretty sure there isn't one any more. Last few times people hung out down there, everybody came back in, you know, one piece. You'd be up for something like that, then? Coooooooooool."

"Of course! I love to swim. I practically grew up on the beach in Argentina. Did you have any ideas about when to have the party?"

"Delphi wasn't too near the water, but the building my parents live in has a pool, so I'm pretty decent at swimming." Anders polished off his second glass of milk and, oblivious to the milk mustache, continued, "I'm thinkin' soon, but no definite dates yet. We are seriously in need of a morale boost around here lately."

Truer words were never spoken. "I completely agree. After yesterday--well. I think everyone needs to cheer up."

Anders raised an eyebrow. "Something go on yesterday I missed out on?"

Damned oblivious boy. He'd been here at lunch yesterday.

Nadia hadn't noticed that Anders had been in the lunch room, so she didn't know he was being oblivious. "It's . . . nothing you should worry about. I just got into an argument with . . . a friend."

"Ah." He took another bite of salmon, grimaced as he had to stop and pick a bone out of it, and nodded. "Just don't make a habit out of it. That gets really tiring. I spent, like, months constantly getting into fights with a friend of mine, and that wasn't any fun."

Hey, there's a reason nobody goes to Anders for profound advice, you know?

Nadia smiled slightly. It was kind of nice to not have someone preaching at her. "I try not to. It makes me crazy when I think someone is mad at me."

Anders gave her an encouraging smile. "Tell me about it. That's how it was with me and Kara for months. After the whole --" He coughed, fidgeted, and flushed bright red. "This whole big messy thing that happened. I thought she hated me, or didn't trust me any more, and we could never have a conversation without it exploding into yelling and accusations and stuff, and that just got Cally all upset and paranoid and . . . yeah. It sucked."

"Sounds like what I'm dealing with. I'm supposed to talk to Victor later, but I'm so worried I won't say the right thing and he'll misunderstand again, and he'll decide to hate me forever."

It didn't help that Nadia still thought she was right.

"How did you end up fixing things?"

"Aw, man. I can't remember really." Anders took a couple more bites of food and ran over past events in his mind. "Well, me and Cally didn't really hash things out until the night of Parker's birthday party, when she got upset enough to shove cake into my face and get us thrown out of Caritas. And then with Kara it was . . . sort of a slow thing, I guess, just getting to the point where I felt like she trusted me again."

He laughed suddenly. "And that? Was a lot of me being stupid and thinking things were worse than they really were."

Caritas was, it seemed, the place to get tossed out of when working out one's issues.

Nadia sighed slightly. "Yeah, with Walter we just got into a fight last night and now I think we're okay. But I think Victor is going to be harder than that."

Cally sets down her tray and sits next to Anders. "Hey Champ, Nadia," she says with a nod. "Whatcha guys talking about?"

Nadia looked down at her food. She had noticed Cally go chasing after Victor yesterday. "Arguing with friends."

"Oh," Cally says with a hesitant smile. "That. Erm... Do you want me to say anything? Cause I can butter it up, cut it straight, or just say nothing at all, if you like."

Nadia sighed. "Might as well say what you want to say. I probably deserve it."

"Erm, I was just wondering if you actually, like, were trying to steal Walter, or if that was just Victor being kinda paranoid?" Cally chews her lower lip.

Nadia facepalmed. "No. I'm not trying to steal Walter. And I'm really not sure what I said that gave Victor that idea."

Cally smiles and she slumps a little, relieved. "Oh good. That makes it all better." Cally pauses a second. "Well, I guess it doesn't fix anything, but it means the problem isn't real. Erm, I mean... yeah."

Well, that problem wasn't real, anyway. Nadia knew better than to say it outloud, though.

"Um, thanks for going after him, yesterday. I wanted to, I don't know, work it out right then, but I probably just would have made it worse."

"No problem," Cally says. "Didn't want to see the little green guy so blue, you know? And I figured somebody who had no idea what was going on could help out."

"Yeah. I'm sure you did." Nadia checked her watch. "I should get going though. I want to get into town this afternoon, and I've got some other stuff to do before that. I'll see you guys around."
