Civics, 1st Period - Friday

No running laps and no weird rich people sports for this class. Well, running the government sort of had turned into the worst rich person sport ever if you thought about it too much, but they'd cover that later on.

"Welcome to Civics, I'm Tony Stark," he said brightly. "Call me Tony if you would. Call this fellow over here Captain Rogers because he's old-fashioned like that."

"It's just weird to call adults by their first names," Steve muttered. "This class is going to be focused on the strengths and weaknesses of the American form of government, which is a democratic republic."

"If you have looked at the news at all in the last two years, you will know some of the flaws," Tony said with a sigh. "But today is getting to know you and what sort of government you're most accustomed to."

"And if you have a favorite government leader, let us know that too," Steve said. "I'm a big FDR fan."

Shocking.

"Can I pick T'Challa? I mean, he is a king and all," Tony said with a grin.

Steve poked him in the shoulder. "Do you like him for his governing style or his tech?"

"Still considering that Prince Consort thing," Tony said brightly. Because who wouldn't? He clapped his hands together and looked out at the class before selecting someone at random. "How about you start us off?"

"Give us your names, too," Steve said.

Don't feel good about that applause, Astrid. That was jerk applause.

But she kind of felt good about that applause. Captain America took a bow. And she moved a finger on her free hand against his head to simulate a salute.

"What's YouTube?"

Congratulations, Tony Stark, you're the first person in three months to mention anything remotely modern to Astrid in a way that would actually make her wonder about it.

"I know a little bit," Astrid offered, because while she'd practically lived her life as a Luddite thanks to her hippie mother, it wasn't like she was that out of it. "We never had a TV at home, though, much less a computer, so I've really only dealt with it at school. And, believe me, the schools I went to before this one weren't nearly good enough to afford computers like they do here."

She frowned thoughtfully. "I figured out how to download music for one of Mr. Starsmore's classes. Is it kind of like that?"

"So, like..." Astrid ventured, "public access television, but on the internet?"

"That sounds both terrifying and incredible," said Astrid after a moment. "I'm in. What do I need to do it?"

Please note, this was clearly entirely karma for giving Summer that Twitter feed, Steve.

"An account," said Astrid, who was scribbling that down in her notebook, "right, I can probably do that at the library computers or something? And Puppet Captain America would do it, but that's kind of boring, isn't it?"

Might need to do some brainstorming. She tapped her pencil thoughtfully on the notebook, but she was never very good at this sort of thing, and, honestly, was giving this way too much thought to begin with.
