Today was another venue shift--this time to the cleared out patch in the Preserve where the student cabins used to be located.

Those who arrived would find themselves surrounded by cut logs, nails, saws, and other construcion material.

Would Anakin use the weekly shenanigans as an excuse to get free labor out of the island inhabitants? Darn right he would.

"Today we're going to do a bit of a riff on the Lumberjack Games," he began, yelling through his megaphone. "But carefully because losing limbs is no one's idea of a good time."

And he'd know. Cough. "First we'll work in pairs to slice through five logs each, and then we'll race up those tall trees and retrieve the flags I've set there. Afterwards, we'll award the fish and everyone is welcome to help us begin to rebuild the cabins so that we can camp again."

He waved his hand and the fish--beautifully rainbowed and shiny now---and into his hand. He looked pleasantly suprised by its appearance. "Right. Hernando and Zack have clearly gone to a lot of trouble this week, so don't set the poor thing on fire again, okay?"

Rosa's week was so messed up that she was actually kind of looking forward to whatever stupid thing the school worked up for this Wednesday distracting her from her own stupid thoughts. And as soon as she saw all the construction materials her eyebrows lifted.

Huh. She might actually even enjoy this one...

Ino laughed.

"Losing limbs is a great time," she said, mostly to Silly, who was watching the proceedings from her shoulder with beady black eyes. "He's totally wrong."

So long as it wasn't her losing the limbs, it was totally a blast.

Well, this should be...interesting. The more physical of the tasks always seemed a little daunting to Astrid, but she knew she'd try her best, comfortable in the fact that her best would land her nice and far from a winning spot.

The change in scenery to the preserve was nice, too, as she sat on a stump to give her a new perspective on some sketches before everything really got started.

Someone had paged Cristina out into the woods.

A) No one on the island should even have her pager number
B) Being paged into the woods was deeply suspicious in basically every way possible
But
C) She was a doctor and she had more than ten years now of obsessively having to listen to her pages, so here she was, out in the woods, answering the page. And staring at the hard hats.

Seivarden knew this was a mistake. She knew it. Still, it would distract her thinking about how miserable her life was, and being frustrated about not being able to figure out the tea thing.

She sat down on a log, looking about as miserable as she felt.

Snacks? Hell yeah, Yang was down for snacks. Her hard hat wasn't on yet, she'd used the straps to clip it to her belt, but she'd get around to it eventually.

"Okay, here are the pairs!" Anakin yelled. "Everyone listen up:

Sidon and Jono
Kathy and Sabine
Theron and Beaker
Cara and Cristina
Rey and Ahsoka
Reno and Tip
Yang and Brooke
Uma and Steve
Ghanima and Rosa
Seivarden and Astrid!"

He gestured over the log piles and the two-sided saws. "Your job is to safely slice five logs in half as quickly as possible, using the saws and not...say, your brains or a lightsaber or your biceps. And--go!"

Steve clapped his hands eagerly and jogged over to a likely pile of logs. "This will be fun!" he said enthusiastically.

Theron looked at Beaker. Theron looked at the saws. Theron had been paying attention the last few weeks.

Not only did Sidon have the chance to work with someone he didn't get a chance to interact with much so far for this one, but it also sounded like it would be quite the exciting event and when Master Skywalker revealed the fish, he had audibly gasped. So beautiful! Hernando and Zack truly had created some magic with that wonderful artifact! He was pumped! But...really, when wasn't he?

"Come, Jono!" he said, waving an arm and hurrying over to the saws. "Let us not waste even a precious second!"

Tip laughed when she found out who her partner was. And started wondering if there was any way to make the logs explode.

Seivarden wasn't sure why she was here. Perhaps she needed distraction from the caffeine withdrawal, perhaps she was just bored. Now she found herself paired up with some kid - she recognised the name from radio - and supposed to do... this.

"Oh fuck," she said with a sigh.

Cutting things with giant saws when you had a lot of unresolved tension and anger built up inside of you lately? Yeah, Rosa could do this. She could go for another therapeutic round of Try to Destroy the Fish, too.

"Alright, cool," she said, grabbing a saw, and looking around for whoever the hell this Ghanima person was, "let's do this."

Climb Trees

Steve waited for the contestants to find their trees before offering instructions: "Okay, you need to climb these trees up two and a half meters, retrieve the flag, and come down. Again--safely. You need to climb, not jump, and then climb down again, even if I know that the fall will not kill you. Ahsoka. And--go!"

This part of the challenge was practically made for Rey, who had a lifetime of practice scaling things to get stuff.

In fact, she realized too late that she was doing this automatically and she didn't actually want to win the damn thing.

"Congratulations, Rey, it's no doubt everything you've ever dreamed of," Anakin said, handing the fish with its green glowing eye, over.

Having built most of what she owned, Rey was used to construction, if not at all this type of it. She set the fish off to the side to get to work.

And occasionally glanced over at it, feeling uneasy.

Maybe once she said, "Stop looking at me."

Sorry for the lateness--I actually slept in for the first time in three months.
