Fun with Magic | Monday, 2nd period

Class had been handwavily informed to meet on the lawn today, and they met a smiling Bob with a large cardboard box filled with what looked like plush bats.

"Today is one of my favorites," Bob confided to them. "Everybody take one of these. They've been enchanted - each time you hit someone with one, they will suffer a magical effect - they may turn a color, or begin to float, or start speaking backward. Or they might speed up, or develop x-ray vision. Each will last for a few minutes."

He beamed. "Have at each other!"

Norman wasn't entirely certain what he was meant to be doing during the lesson itself, but... hey, he was here if anyone needed him.

Or if Bob needed him to gather up the batacas and take them back somewhere at the end of class.

How perceptive - Bob did indeed need that!

He waved Norman at the box. "Gather those up, if you would, and we can ship them back to Harry."

"Right," Norman replied... gathering them up, because he could. And then pausing. "Harry?"

"My friend, Harry Dresden." Bob answered. "My usual assistant. Quite a decent magus when he pays attention, lousy dresser."

He'd given up on introducing Harry as his owner; that tended to bring up too many questions.

"Oh," Norman replied. "Well... I'll try to... dress better?"

But as a teenager of the here and now, they were probably admittedly about at par.

"Trust me, that isn't much of an achievement," Bob said. "Try for better."

Norman hesitated for a second, pausing in his gathering of the bats.

"Better like what?"

"Buy your clothes new and you've got a good start." Bob waved Norman in the direction they needed to go.

"I've seen some pretty bad new clothes," Norman noted, though, bats in arm, he started walking in the direction Bob had indicated anyway.

"I said it was a start," Bob said. "Actually having taste is a bigger step."

"That part sounds a little bit like something that can't be learned," Norman observed.

"Nonsense," Bob said. "Anyone can learn what passes for fashion. Not to the extent of some, perhaps, but enough to dress themselves well."

"Well... then I guess I have some studying to do."

After all, he was wearing a hoodie. And some kind of old sneakers.

He was a teenager; that made sense. And his clothing fit.
