Class had been handwavily informed to meet on the lawn today, and they met a smiling Bob with a large cardboard box filled with what looked like plush bats.

"Today is one of my favorites," Bob confided to them. "Everybody take one of these. They've been enchanted - each time you hit someone with one, they will suffer a magical effect - they may turn a color, or begin to float, or start speaking backward. Or they might speed up, or develop x-ray vision. Each will last for a few minutes."

He beamed. "Have at each other!"

Or get hit. Effects are moddable, and will range from amusing to mildly disconcerting, nothing actually harmful.

Well... Norman supposed he probably ought to put forth his best effort to not get too smacked around by the bat things today. But he had to admit, he was kind of curious, too.

So if he wasn't trying maybe as hard as he could be to avoid getting smacked at the start of the game, well, call it curiosity, really.
