"Welcome back," Anakin said, giving the students a very tiny smile. "Today we're exploring more Earth-bound craft. This one--he gestured to the holoprojection--is called the Gossamer Albatross. It is powered by your feet and reaches a top speed of only 15 miles an hour, but it was the very first-human powered airplane."

Anakin laughed. "It's also a fairly ridiculous-looking contraption and I'm pretty sure you can go faster on an actual bicycle, but it's fun to try out."

If you wanted to know how many languages Sabine could curse under her breath in, just pay attention to her trying to work this thing. She probably looked cool about it, but didn't sound cool about it.

"Okay, how does this work?" She put her feet down on the paddle-things like everyone else has. "You just..."

She pushed down. "Hm."

"It's one of the stranger designs," Anakin agreed.

"I wouldn't know," Aloy said frankly, as she managed to get the hang of the momentum her steps were producing. "This is my first flying machine."

"Yes, really," Aloy said, raising her eyebrows. "I'm here because I want to see more."

Maybe figure out how they tick... maybe build her own from scrap parts...

"Oh, we'll have lots more," Anakin promised. "This one is something a person designed all on his own. Some others are much more complex--capable of space flight and lightspeed."

"So building a flying machine on your own is possible," Aloy mused. (Of course that was her takeaway.) "I mean, I know it has to be - I've just never thought about it before."

"When you have the right parts, it's not even all that difficult," Anakin said. He wave his hand at the contraption they were flying today. "This only has, say, half of the right parts and it's still flying."

"So what else would it need?" Aloy put her feet down on the ground and looked up.

"A better engine, for one," Anakin said. "I like flying slightly faster than I can run. A wing design that makes more sense, too."

"I need to get at the engine," Yang said distractedly, already running down a mental list of parts in her head. "Even self-powered, there's better efficiencies we can put in, and the propeller system seems insufficient."

The girl built her own motorcycles. Of course she was going to take this apart and make it go faster.
